On February 19, Nintendo World in New York will re-launch as “Nintendo NY”. The updated store will feature “an updated interior design, new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS demo units, a 15-foot gaming screen and more fun elements and surprises.” Also as previously mentioned, a large bronze coin can be found at the entrance with the tagline: “Where everyone comes to play.”

Here’s what fans can expect when Nintendo NY’s doors open:

“When the store opens to the public at noon, there will be a series of activities, including giveaways, like exclusive Splatoon art created by the developers of the hit game (while supplies last), and appearances by costumed characters like Mario and Luigi. The store will also sell exclusive souvenirs that can only be purchased that weekend, including a limited-edition T-shirt featuring Mario or Link. Fans who want to try out some of Nintendo’s latest games are in luck, as new and upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will be available to play.”

Nintendo NY will open to the press between 9 AM and 10 AM. The public can enter starting at 12 PM.

Last July, Akira Himekawa teased a new entry in the Zelda manga series. There were plans to have it out last year, but strangely, nothing ever materialized. A concrete update was finally shared today.

A new Twilight Princess manga will begin and published at Shogakukan’s manga app Manga One. They would’ve liked to announce the title during last year’s tease, but there were many states of affairs, which is why they could only announce it today.

Late last year, an event for the Mother series was held in Japan. Nintendo Dream was in attendance, and spoke up with well-known designer Shigesato Itoi.

In the interview, Itoi commented on topics such as Mother 3’s development (cancelling the project on the Nintendo 64 before moving onto the Game Boy Advance), the series in general, the fans, and plenty more.

We now have a complete translation of Nintendo’s Dream’s piece. To read it in full, head past the break.

It’s Pokemon’s 20th anniversary this year, so plenty of merchandise is being prepared for the franchise. At Wonder Festival in Japan next week, a brand new figure of Red will be unveiled. Attached above is a hint as to what we’ll be seeing.

Engineer and designer Masayuki Uemura, who worked on the creation of the NES, recently appeared at the National Videogame Arcade in Hockley. Nottingham Post caught up with him for a brief chat about the famous console.

According to Uemura, the console’s original color scheme was based on Hiroshi Yamauchi’s favorite scarf. Of course, Yamauchi was Nintendo’s president at the time.

Uemura also said the following when we asked if he believes games helped build East-West relations in the wake of World War II:

“The NES had an important role in transmitting Japanese culture to the world, and we received influences from foreign countries, too. We are different cultures but childhood is universal.”

In an interview with GamesMaster this month, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma shared some thoughts about the possibility of having Link speak. He does believe that this could be a good idea, but at the same time, he also “feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character.”

Aonuma’s words in full:

“We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to hear [Link’s] voice, and while in some ways I do feel that it could be good to have a game where he speaks, part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character. I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision.”

Link has been known throughout the history of Zelda as being a silent protagonist. If he were to be given a voice, that would definitely have a notable impact on the series. How would you feel if Link spoke in a Zelda title?

This week’s Nintendo Minute has gone live. In today’s episode, Kit and Krysta give Shovel Knight another look now that amiibo support is here. We’ve gone ahead and posted the video below.
