Niantic facing court hearing in the Netherlands because of Pokemon GO
Posted on 9 years ago by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in Mobile, News | 14 Comments
It’s no secret that Pokemon GO has been incredibly successful for developer Niantic, however there have also been numerous problems on its road to success, including residents, local authorities etc who feel that the game is negatively affecting the real world locations it is played at. The latest of those is the town of Kijkduin in the Netherlands, near Den Haag, The Guardian reports. The beaches near the town are popular hunting grounds for Pokemon – however, some of the dunes are considered protected areas, and local authorities are concerned that the mass of people playing Pokemon GO there will cause damage to these protected areas. In an official statement, the authorities said that they “want to ban these small virtual animals in protected areas and in the streets from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am”.
Authorities in Den Haag said that they’ve been trying to reach Niantic since mid-August, but have received no reply from the US-based developer. As such, they feel like they “have no other choice” but to go to court. The hearing will take place at a court in Den Haag on October 11th.

Pokemon’s Holo Caster comes to an end
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 2 Comments
The Holo Caster has been used in Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. Its primary function was to provide players with news pertaining to the games and real life events. Updates were done through SpotPass and downloaded manually from the internet. All regions received updates, though there hasn’t been much going on outside of Japan as of late.
Serebii now reports that the Holo Caster service has been discontinued. After logging in, a final notice is displayed, and states that the feature has been around for three years.

Update: Tied, not broken – Player sets new Super Mario Bros. world record within a single frame
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 6 Comments
Update (10/2): Kotaku now reports that Kosmic’s time was off by a single frame, so he’s actually tied the record rather than breaking it. As he explained:
“Basically we know the exact time of the run by the pattern bowser does. His patterns change every frame from power on, so the pattern he gave me is the pattern for 4:57.227.
But, I got a frame of lag when I did [the] bullet bill glitch in 8-2, and lag isn’t like an official frame that the game keeps track of, so Bowser’s pattern isn’t affected by this.
8-4 was 1 frame faster but 8-2 was 1 frame slower so it’s an exact tie.”
Original (10/1): The previous world record for Super Mario Bros. was 4:57.244. However, this past week, Kosmic was able to overcome that time by a single frame. He now has the world record of 4:57.227 – just a difference of .017, seconds.
Here’s a look at Kosmic’s run:

With today’s piece, Capcom touches on the full-length Special Episode, “Turnabout Time Traveler?” I don’t want to say too much about it since Mr. Eguchi will be telling you all about it in a bit. You’ll hear from main writer Masakazu Eguchi as well as some final words from director Takeshi Yamazaki.
Thanks to Jake for the tip.
