Rumors

Game Informer senior editor Imran Khan has provided some additional details about the current state of Nintendo’s plans for Metroid.

Something that has been rumored in the past is Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch, though it has yet to be announced. Khan says that it’s “been long done” and it was supposed to be announced last month. Why that didn’t happen is unclear.

Aside from Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid Prime Trilogy, there’s apparently “more Metroid stuff” in the works. Khan believes Metroid Prime 4’s delay “adjusts their schedule a bit,” which may or may not include Trilogy.

Metroid Prime 4

Nintendo dropped some massive news earlier today that many probably hadn’t seen coming. After it was initially announced at E3 2017, the work on Metroid Prime 4 is being scrapped. Nintendo is essentially starting from scratch, this time with original Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios.

It’s unlikely that we’ll hear about the issues surrounding development anytime soon in an official capacity, if at all. However, Game Informer senior editor Imran Khan claims to have some insight into the situation.

Death end re;Quest may have a chance of coming to Switch. That’s based on a new listing from Amazon Italy, which lists the game.

One aspect to consider is the release date the retailer has. Amazon Italy claims that Death end re;Quest is coming to Switch on February 22, which is the release date for the PlayStation 4 version. That would be oddly close since there’s yet to even be an official announcement. It’s unclear if the listing itself is a mistake, or if the date is just a placeholder.

Nintendo Switch Online

The supported platforms for the Nintendo Switch Online service could be expanding in the future. Just a few days ago, fans datamined what appeared to be references to various SNES games. Some additional information has since surfaced.

The Nintendo Switch Online app was updated again yesterday, making a few new games available to subscribers. However, that apparently wasn’t all. New languages were added for SNES descriptions such as Spanish for Super Mario Kart.

Here’s a look at the rundown of existing language descriptions currently, which is speculated to be the SNES launch lineup:

Mario Tennis Aces

Update: (1/15): The validity of this datamine has been brought into question. Currently it seems that the news was fabricated, so take what you’ve heard with a big grain of salt.

Original (1/14): After datamining Mario Tennis Aces, fans have discovered what could be a huge development for the game. An unexpected character might be joining the fray – and it’s one not from the Mario universe. We know that some folks are sensitive to spoilers concerning unannounced content, so continue on below if you’re interested in reading up on the scoop.

Nintendo Switch Online

After datamining the NES – Nintendo Switch Online app, references to a bunch of different SNES games were found. That may not have been the only notable discovery, however.

More datamining has led to fans finding a total of four emulators within the app. As spotted by OatmealDome, they are as follows:

Each month, a new wave of games are added to Nintendo Switch Online for subscribers. At this point Nintendo has yet to announce what’s coming beyond January – this month. However, thanks to some datamining, we may have an idea as to what’s ahead.

After poking through the contents of the current NES Switch app, references to over 20 SNES titles were apparently uncovered. Here’s what was uncovered:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Datamining has led to all sorts of information being uncovered early about games in the past. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might be the latest example of this – specifically regarding DLC.

Fans have been poking through Smash Bros. Ultimate’s files and may have come across possible information regarding future DLC characters. Obviously, if you’re looking to avoid any potential spoilers, you may want to skip what we cover below.

This week, we’ve seen a pair of official movie posters for the upcoming Sonic movie. In case you missed them, you can check them out here and here.

Today we have a look at another possible poster for the film, though it might be a bit older. The one pictured above is apparently from last year when the cast and script were greenlit. Still, could this be our first look at Sonic in the movie?

German retailer MediaMarkt has listed Assassin’s Creed Compilation for Switch as well as other platforms. The page includes a tentative March 29 release date. No further information is provided, including which titles would potentially be included.

Unlike retailers that have a reputation for accuracy such as Amazon or GameFly, we can’t be certain that the Assassin’s Creed Compilation listing is spot on. For now, we advise taking it with a grain of salt. If Ubisoft makes any announcements in the future, we’ll be sure to let you know.
