3DS

Capcom revealed yet another collaboration for Monster Hunter XX this week. The Japanese 3DS game is teaming up with Kingdom, a manga series in Japan.

The collaboration comes in the form of a sword and shield weapon called Xin’s Sword. The sword is inherited by Xin from his friend, and the shield depicts a hot-blooded general.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

XSEED has found itself in a bind with Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns’ downloadable content. The new content could either be sold as paid DLC, or abandoned entirely.

XSEED explained a blog post:

“The total size of the DLC is over 200,000 Japanese characters, making it as large as some games we’ve released. The first Corpse Party, for example, has about 210,000 characters.

The last round of DLC was released in Japan in mid-December, which means that the Japanese text was completed after we’d entered the QA and submission phase of localizing the main game. With DLC of this size, including it in the game would have been impossible under our schedule. It would have forced us to release months after we’d originally planned.

Senran Kagura Burst could have ended up with a very different boxart for Europe. Originally, PQube was toying around with an idea that “would have featured Hikage, and would have had a plastic sleeve around the box that would slide off. Hikage’s out clothing would have been on the sleeve only, so that peeling off the sleeve would mimic Senran Kagura‘s well-known clothing destruction feature.”

The image below is what PQube went with for the final product. While the initial idea was abandoned, head of marketing Geraint Evans says it could be revisited at some point.

It took a few tries, but a Pokemon Global Mission has finally been successful. Pokemon Sun/Moon players were tasked with making one million trades at the GTS, and it looks like that goal has been reached. Players will receive 2,000 Festival Coins as a result.

You still have until February 14 at 00:00 UTC to participate. If two million trades are registered by then, a Friend Ball will also be given out as a reward.

Square Enix issued a new trailer and commercials for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional. All of the videos are posted below.

Yesterday, there was some discussion about Nintendo potentially considering a 3DS successor. An article from Kyoto Shimbun suggested that president Tatsumi Kimishima may have pointed in that direction.

Nintendo has now published the full Q&A transcript from its Corporate Management Policy Briefing / financial results breifing (in Japanese). It seems there is less here than initially assumed.

When asked about a next-gen portable, Kimishima starting out by saying that Switch and 3DS can co-exist. After all, the two devices have many differences in terms of elements such as form factor, weight, price, and games. Kimishima believes 3DS can be appealing for parents to purchase as their first gaming system for their children because of those factors. He concluded by saying that there is a different demand and market for 3DS as a portable system from Switch, and for a next handheld, Nintendo will keep considering it as always.

Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi chimed in as well. About a new portable, he explained that Nintendo is always thinking about its next game device, so the answer is “We are always thinking about it” rather than there is or there isn’t a 3DS successor.
