Sonic Boom moves 490,000 copies, other SEGA financial results tidbits
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 10 Comments
Sonic Boom has sold 490,000 copies worldwide on Wii U and 3DS, SEGA has confirmed. The company’s report doesn’t actually clarify if that figure is shipped or sold-in to consumers. However, it’s disappointing in any case, and Sonic Boom is the worst-performing entry in the series ever.
Today’s information about Sonic Boom’s performance comes from SEGA’s latest financial report. Other interesting tidbits are as follows:
– SEGA spent $210 million on games development
– That is a 27 percent increase compared to the year prior
– Advertising expenses climbed 53 percent, up to $73 million
– SEGA is releasing 50 games by the end of the financial year in March, but combined sales of all those are expected to be about 5.4 million units
– SEGA initially expected to sell about 300,000 units of its four latest Wii U games
– That is now revised to 230,000, making it the weakest platform in terms of unit sales
– Full year expectations for 3DS 1,160,000
– SEGA’s revenue for the three-quarter period was $685 million
– After expenses, that lowers to a profit of $18 million
– SEGA is now organizing a sweeping business restructure, which will rebuild the corporation into three divisions, as part of a wider plan to “drastically improve profitability”
– At least 300 positions at the corporation are targeted for redundancy
– SEGA has set aside $125 million for the restructure costs
– SEGA expects to lose $110m for the full year

Arceus to be the advance booking distribution for upcoming Pokemon movie in Japan
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 2 Comments
This month’s CoroCoro has started to leak. In the magazine, it’s revealed that those who pre-book tickets for the movie “The Archdjinni of the Rings – Hoopa” in Japan can participate in a distribution for Arceus. The Pokemon knows the moves Judgment, Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon and Earth Power. Additionally, it comes with the item Silk Scarf.
Arceus will be obtainable by pre-booking tickets between March 7 and July 17. It’s redeemable between June 20 and August 31.
We have a small tidbit about the movie itself as well. There will plenty of legendary Pokemon, including Lugia, Palkia, Giratina, Dialga, Kyurem and Arceus.
By pre-booking, you’ll also receive another legendary Pokemon out of these six revealed for the movie, though the specific six you get one of are not known at the moment.
That’s not all from CoroCoro. It’s also revealed that the Shiny Rayquaza will be distributed through the magazine, and it can be obtained even if players nabbed the one at the World Hobby Fair. Specific details will be announced sometime in the future.

How GameStop is handling New 3DS XL content transfers and trade-ins
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS, News | 21 Comments
GameStop is running a promotion in which consumers can obtain $100 for their 3DS XL units and $75 for 3DS/2DS units towards the purchase of a New 3DS XL (through February 15). There’s just one issue: transferring data from one 3DS system to another requires both systems, and can take a decent amount of time to complete.
With that in mind, Polygon spoke with a few GameStop locations in Ohio and learned that there’s a plan in place for the situation. Here’s the full rundown:
- Go to GameStop. Purchase a $200 New 3DS XL
- Take your system home, go through the transfer process
- Take your existing system and your new system back to GameStop
- Return your new system for a full refund of $200
- Trade-in your existing system for $100
- Rebuy your New 3DS XL, use the $100 credit to pay for half the purchase
Not the easiest process in the world, but at least it’s something!
