Pac-Attack hitting the North American Wii U Virtual Console tomorrow
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 0 comments
Pac-Attack is launching on the North American Wii U eShop as the latest Virtual Console title, Nintendo’s website confirms. The classic game will be priced at $7.99.
Here’s a brief overview:
Pac-Man makes a rare appearance outside of a maze environment in Pac-Attack, a fun and quirky puzzle game! This unique entry in the genre puts its own twist on established conventions and adds one of gaming’s most iconic characters to the mix. The goal is simple: keep your screen clear of falling blocks and ghosts. You can clear blocks by lining them up horizontally, causing them to disappear. Clearing the ghosts, though, requires the help of a hungry Pac-Man (who just happens to swing by every so often for a snack). It’s up to you to get all of the ghosts lined up for him, because Pac-Man will keep eating them until he is stopped by a block or he runs out of ghosts. In addition, his range of movement on the playing field is limited to horizontal or downward—thus adding further strategy. There are three game modes to choose from: 1P Normal, 2P Versus, and the challenging 1P Puzzle.

More details about The Great Ace Attorney – creation of Ryunosuke
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 0 comments
In Capcom’s latest video for The Great Ace Attorney, director Shu Takumi and producer Shintaro Kojima spoke about the origins of main character Ryunosuke Naruhod. You’ll find a summary of what was shared below, courtesy of Siliconera’s translation.
– Ryunosuke is a university student when the story begins
– He becomes determined to be an attorney after becoming involved with a certain incident
– “Naruhodo” is the Japanese version for “Wright”
– Ryunosuke is the ancestor of Phoenix, and The Great Ace Attorney will tell the tale of how the first attorney of the Wright family came to be, and how it carried on after
– Players will see more traditional garments since the game is set in the Meiji Period of Japan when “defense attorney” was still a new concept
– Initially decided to give Ryunosuke the sharp look of a university student
– This wasn’t an issue, but designing his hairstyle took more time
– Takumi says that he wanted something recognizable from a silhouette
– Given the time period, most people had simple haircuts, and they wouldn’t have wanted to give that to the protagonist
– “Ryunosuke” name was decided on within ten seconds
– As Phoenix’s name in Japanese is “Ryunoichi,” they began writing a list of names they could use, and the very first one was Ryunosuke
– The development team ended up keeping this name until the end
– The concept of Ryunosuke’s character came from the idea of how Phoenix would act and speak if he were living in the Meiji Period
– Since he’s not exactly a proper attorney, you’ll see Ryunosuke display a little nervousness and inexperience, which adds to his character and the setting

Yooka-Laylee main character ideas included a tiger, witch and a broom with eyes
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 7 Comments
Yooka-Laylee features a chameleon and bat as the platformer’s main characters. However, those two didn’t start out as the initial ideas.
Responding to one fan in a Reddit AMA, Playtonic’s Steve Mayles revealed that he initially wanted to have a tiger in Yooka-Laylee. The team also considered a witch and a broom with eyes.
Mayles’ full comments are as follows:
My initial idea was a tiger as they are great-looking animals, but he never got past the sketch phase. He was deemed a bit too much of a ‘hero’ when all of my past characters were more like underdogs. We even tried a witch and a broom with eyes at one point!

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight – Flavio trailer
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Videos | 0 comments
Atlus uploaded a new trailer for Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight today. In the video, we get a look at Flavio the Survivalist.
Continue on below for the new Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight trailer as well as an overview of the character straight from Atlus.
At first I was bound, I was petrified!
Kept thinkin’ I would never live
Without Flavio by my side…And I was right, because instead of showing him the door as in Gloria Gaynor’s disco masterpiece, players should welcome Flavio the Survivalist to their party with open arms in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold’s story mode! Flavio (and Survivalists in Classic mode) is a deadly archer that can inflict a number of status debuffs on monsters in the Labyrinth, not to mention he has access to “Flank Shot” early on, which does damage to multiple enemies.
True to his class, Survivalists also have some dodge-tanking skills in the form of “Trick Step” and “Chain Dance.” The former skill lowers an enemy’s hit rate, and the latter raises the Survivalist’s target and evade rate. The hilarious “Scapegoat” skill lowers incoming damage to an ally, but forces them to act as a shield for the whole party.
For strategic Survivalists, Risk Perception skills will help Flavio reveal chests and F.O.E.s, raise the party’s sneak-attack rate, and even lower the encounter rate while in dungeons.
