Nintendo eShop

Nintendo’s maintenance schedule has received its regular update. There’s not too much coming up over the next few days, though there’s some notable eShop downtime the following week.

Here’s the current schedule:

In addition to being a cloud-based storage solution for Pokemon, Pokemon Home also offers users various challenges and rewards when you complete them – most notably the Original Color Magearna, which could not be legally obtained any other way previously. To get it, you needed a complete “living” Pokedex, i.e. one copy of every Pokemon in Pokemon Home. However, many users who had completed that challenge didn’t receive Magearna. A maintenance has recently been completed which fixed these issues. Additionally, according to Serebii, the condition to get Original Color Magearna is now much easier to achieve – it seems like you only need a complete National Pokedex registered in Pokemon Home, but not a living one. For example, you only need to evolve Bulbasaur to Ivysaur and then to Venusaur, but you don’t need individual copies of Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur anymore. However, keep in mind that this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Pokemon Masters had a bit of a rough start, but since then, DeNA have been steadily improving the game, adding new content and improving quality of life aspects, and they’ve been actively communicating with players. Today, they announced some more changes coming to Pokemon Masters to make the game a more pleasant experience. Here’s an overview of the changes that are planned:

  • Reducing the number of times you have to battle in order to get rewards from events
  • Improving the Sync Grid system
  • New feature – Legendary Arena: extremely difficulty battles against Legendary Pokemon; planned for release this Summer
  • battles against opponents like Elite Four members and Champions will be more challenging and more rewarding
  • New feature – Medals, a kind of achievement system
  • New feature – Pokemon Eggs: with this feature, players will be able change the partner Pokemon of the player character, and they’ll be able to freely choose from a selection of fan-favorite Pokemon
  • Bonus effects based on team composition will be introduced – for example, using a team with only trainers from the Kanto region will give all of them a boost in battle

Pokemon GO’s reputation was originally built upon the idea of going outside, moving about, and interacting with others. Unfortunately, the coronavirus is making these types of interactions almost impossible. In response to the pandemic, Niantic is implementing temporary changes in mechanics.

A representative told Polygon that Niantic is “prioritizing updates to Pokémon GO features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings.” Habitats will be increased, allowing players to see more monsters nearby while playing closer to home.

Niantic has announced that the latest Pokemon GO Community Day featuring Abra has been postponed. Though not stated explicitly, it’s clear that the move was made due to the coronavirus.

The latest Pokemon GO Community Day was originally scheduled for March 15. A new date / window has not yet been announced.

Here’s the full announcement from Niantic:

Niantic has announced that the Paleozoic Pokemon Genesect is on the way to Pokemon GO. The creature will be appearing as part of a Special Research event starting March 20.

Players will be able to purchase a ticket for $7.99, which provides access to the event, the ability to encounter Genesect, and more. Those who prefer to keep their experience free will be able to find Genesect in EX Raids beginning in April.
