Former Mojang Studios business developer Daniel Kaplan briefly weighed in on today’s news on Twitter. Apparently, talks of Minecraft in Smash Bros. began “at least five” years ago. When pressed further, Kaplan added that he has “no idea when implementation started.”

Minecraft’s addition to the Super Smash Bros. universe was revealed in a presentation earlier today. Director Masahiro Sakurai will be delivering a lengthy presentation on October 3 to further explain the DLC and will be providing a release date.
