GameStop: Switch sales exceeding Wii sales in same timeframe, strong first quarter results helped by Switch launch
Posted on 7 years ago by Zack in News, Switch | 26 Comments
GameStop has recently shared its sales performance results from the first quarter of 2017, which were described as “particularly strong” thanks in part to the success of the Nintendo Switch, among other things. Furthermore, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmed posted additional facts related to GameStops report on his Twitter.
While the report obviously focuses on GameStop mostly, there are some interesting mentions of the Nintendo Switch. Around 5.4 million console units have been sold between it’s launch in March and now, and the console has a very high attach rate of 6 to 1 for accessories. The strong demand for the Switch is especially noteworthy for occurring outside the holiday period.
GameStop CFO Rob Lloyd said that it was likely even more Switch units could be sold if the company hadn’t had trouble securing enough consoles. “There is a contest among all the retailers, online and in store, with our good friends at Nintendo.” GameStop Company Chief Tony Bartel added that GameStop wasn’t even close to meeting the demand they received for the Switch.

Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 3 Comments
We initially heard that the ARMS Global Testpunch would include seven playable characters. However, fans were hopeful that the full roster would be in after the official eShop listing made note of seven.
Well, bad news. That listing has been updated, and now says seven instead of ten.
Here’s a screenshot:
So that’s it then. No Twintelle, Byte & Barq, or Kid Cobra. You’ll be able to play as Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Master Mummy, Ninjara, Mechanica, Min Min, and Helix.

No, Boys’ Life magazine didn’t spoil Animal Crossing and Pikmin Switch E3 announcements
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Switch | 14 Comments
A rather silly rumor has been making the rounds over the past day or so. In the latest Boys’ Life magazine, a quote was found that led some people to believe that Nintendo will be announcing new Animal Crossing and Pikmin games for Switch at E3.
The quote is as follows:
“Since Nintendo already launched its Switch console and the epic Zelda: Breath of the Wild earlier this year, what’s left to announce? Updates on cool Switch games like Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing and even a new Pikmin title.”
GameXplain reached out to the source directly for an answer. As expected, Boys’ Life did say that this was only conjecture. If new Animal Crossing and / or Pikmin games are announced, it’ll merely be a coincidence.

Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 10 Comments
EA won’t have a traditional press conference at E3 this year. That’s in large part because the publisher is hosting its own event dedicated for fans, known as EA Play 2017.
The full lineup for EA Play 2017 was announced today. Interestingly, FIFA on Switch will be playable for the first time (as of now it’s not using the FIFA 18 name by the way).
EA Play 2017 will take place on the following days / times at the Hollywood Palladium:
Saturday June 10 from 4pm – 8pm
Sunday June 11 from 12pm – 6pm
Monday June 12 from 12pm – 5pm
EA Play 2017 will be fully open to the public. Free tickets can be ordered here.

If you needed any further evidence that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle exists, look no further than a classification from Brazil. The game was officially rated and added in a listing today. Ubisoft is also listed as its producer, further indicating that Nintendo will not be publishing.
Switch provides a boost to Best Buy, Target

Switch has managed to boost Best Buy’s sales. According to a Bloomberg report, demand for the console “helped the retailer post a surprise sales gain” in Q1.
Best Buy isn’t the only retailer benefiting from the launch of Switch. Target said last week that its electronics sales “leapt forward” thanks to the console.

Capcom COO: Praise for the Switch, will see how to support the system while looking at Ultra Street Fighter II
Posted on 7 years ago by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in News, Switch | 109 Comments
Japanese business publication Toyo Keizai published an interview with Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto today (thanks to NeoGAF users CalmMind and zeromcd73 for the translation) . Among other things, the interview was about the Switch. Tsujimoto praised the system and its unique selling point – he talked about how his primary school-age daughter, who has never wanted a home console before, now wants a Switch. He also said that developing games that users want to play is crucial – in the DS & Wii era, third party developers were initially struggling with making compelling games that make use of a system’s unique features. Nintendo had to lead the way, essentially, and show other developers how to make games that fit the hardware.
Tsujimoto also briefly talked about Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers on the Switch. He stated that Capcom will think of how to support the Switch while observing how Ultra Street Fighter II does on the system. Of course, this could be interpreted in a lot of ways, though one would hope that the sales of a remake won’t be the only factor Capcom takes into consideration for their future support of the system.
