Earlier this week, NPD put out its U.S. sales report for September 2015. Nintendo said that 3DS hardware sales are up almost 25 percent through the first nine months of 2015 year-over-year while Wii U increased by nearly 110 percent over sales in August.

Using the information provided by Nintendo, the 3DS sold roughly 120,000 units in the U.S. last month. Things are slightly less clear with Wii U, but it’s estimated that the console moved around 85,000 units.

That’s not the only piece of data stemming from the September 2015 NPD report. Via creamsugar, we have sales for a pair of 3DS games. Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX sold 24,000 copies in the United States last month while Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson moved 10,000 units.

A few hours ago, Nintendo announced that the seventh North American Splatfest will be held next weekend. It turns out that the same event – though with a different topic – is planned for Japan. The new Japanese Splatfest pits love up against money.

Nintendo is also making a notable change with the new Splatfest. Going forward, wins will be more important for all regions. Results will now be calculated by multiplying the win percentage by six and adding that amount to the popularity percentage. Previously, win percentage was only multiplied four times.

Splatoon’s seventh Splatfest has been dated for North America. You can either choose to be on Team Pirate or Team Ninja (not the developer!).

The new Splatfest will begin at 12 AM ET on October 31, and 9 PM PT on October 30. Nintendo will hold the event for a full day, with the results coming soon after.

At least in Europe, the only way to purchase Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival could be through the retail bundle. A listing on the eShop suggests that a digital version will not be made available. We don’t have official confirmation straight from Nintendo at the moment, but this is what we have to go on at the moment.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has commented a bit more on the new entry in the series for Wii U.

Speaking with IGN, he commented about the game’s open world. Aonuma acknowledged that some fans were hoping that Skyward Sword had a bigger open world, and for this title, he wants to “put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game.”

He said:

“We actually had some feedback from Skyward Sword, where people were saying, ‘This is not exactly the Zelda game I was looking for, I was looking for a bigger open world.’ Unfortunately, I can’t go into details but I’m hoping to put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game. I hope that you’ll look forward to it.”

Aonuma also talked about fan feedback. Though the development team reads a lot of what fans think about the series, not all of their feedback will make it into future Zelda titles.

“If we put all the feedback the fans write directly into the game, there won’t be an element of surprise. If there’s a comment and they’re asking for certain element, I would think, ‘Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn’t expect?’ That’s how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game.“
