The Song of Seven is the latest indie title that will no longer be coming to Wii U. However, rather than simply being cancelled due to the arrival of Switch, Enlightened Games seems to have encountered technical issues getting the game running properly on the console.
The developer did note in a Kickstarter update that they’ll “continue to work with Nintendo on the possibility of release on future Nintendo platforms with new hardware better aligned with our game engine.”
The full update reads:
“Firstly, we need to address the state of the union with Nintendo development. After more than a year of attempting to tweak, re-tweak, re-create, and optimize, we have run out of options for being able to make the game work on the Wii U console. This means we will be cancelling the game’s Wii U specific version, which we first thought of all of our Wii U backers before making this tough decision. We found that there is no feasible way to transition the game to that specific console without rebuilding the game from the ground up. Don’t fret, though, Nintendo faithful backers. We will continue to work with Nintendo on the possibility of release on future Nintendo platforms with new hardware better aligned with our game engine. We sincerely apologize in regards to our unforeseen obstacles, but there is a slight silver lining. In addition to releasing on the Playstation 4, we are currently working with Microsoft to add release on the Xbox One, with both versions releases slated in 2017, bringing you more options to play the game on.. If you chose to back with a Nintendo copy, but would like to choose a different copy of the game, we would be happy to send you a steam/drm free, or shoot you a copy for Xbox One/PS4 when released.”
Octocopter: Super Sub Squid Escape is heading to the Wii U eShop very soon. When it does drop, the game will require about 320 MB of space. Not a huge amount, but not small either.

The Switch rumors don’t stop coming today, and it’s another major one, this time from Eurogamer. The outlet claims that, according to multiple sources, a mainline Pokemon game is currently being developed by Game Freak for the Switch under the codename “Pokemon Stars”. As the name implies, it is supposedly the “third version” to Pokemon Sun & Moon, like Yellow was to Red & Blue, Platinum was to Diamond & Pearl and so on. The game is “already well in development”, according to Eurogamer, and will launch in 2017. The target release date is apparently late 2017, though it was initially planned as a Summer release. This would be the first ever mainline Pokemon game to be playable on a home console – and the first time that games in a single generation of Pokemon will span multiple consoles.
According to Eurogamer, the Pokemon Sun & Moon initial reveal trailer might have already shown footage of this supposed Switch version – the model of Pikipek shown there is apparently from Pokemon Stars:
Laura Kate Dale of Let’s Play Video Games has once again come forward with another Switch rumor/leak – and this time, it’s a wild one. According to her sources at both Ubisoft and Nintendo, Ubisoft is developing a Mario & Raving Rabbids crossover turn-based RPG, which will be one of the Switch’s launch titles.
Apparently, the working title is “Mario RPG: Invasion of the Rabbids” and, while Ubisoft is the main developer, Nintendo is overseeing the development to ensure proper use of the Mario IP. As the working title implies, the game will be about an invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom by various Rabbids characters. A new Bowser form based on the design of the Rabbids will apparently be a recurring boss character. The core party will apparently feature various minor characters from the Mario universe, with a particular focus on Yoshi, alongside a playable Rabbid. There will be cameo appearances from some of the more major Mario characters.
Nintendo has put out an emergency maintenance for some of their online servers. Certain services (such as Splatoon) are offline, and there is no word on when they will be back up or why they are undergoing maintenance in the first place.

The October 2016 report is now fully available, but it’s pretty quiet on the Nintendo front. No Wii U or 3DS titles were among the top ten best-selling games of the month.
On the bright side, the 3DS itself saw another uptick in the United States. Analyst Sam Naji says the handheld saw its fifth straight month of year-on-year growth. Pokemon and Monster Hunter Generations are thought to have been two catalysts.
Naji said:
“The 3DS experienced its fifth straight month of year-on-year growth. Both unit sales and consumer spending for October grew 12 percent as average pricing was flat year on year. It is likely that continued consumer interest in the Pokémon franchise and Monster Hunter: Generations has driven this growth.”
