At E3, Axiom Verge creator Tom Happ said he was looking into a potential 3DS port. That’s something which still hasn’t been ruled out, but technical challenges could prevent it from happening.

Dan Adelman, who has worked with Happ, was asked by Nintendo World Report for another update on Axiom Verge possibly coming to 3DS at Gamescom last week. Here’s the latest on that front:

“We would love to, but we’re looking into the technical feasibility. Even though the graphics/artstyle is very retro-looking, there’s actually a lot that’s technically going on under the hood. It’s always funny when people look at it and say ‘Oh, you could run that on the NES’, and I laugh because there’s no way you could run that on a NES. It really pushes the Wii U hardware. We’re investigating what it would take to bring it to the 3DS. We probably wouldn’t be able to, if we were able to do it at all, there would have to be some compromises made. We don’t know what those compromises would be, and if it’s not going to be a great experience we don’t want to do it. We’re looking into it now, if I had a magic wand and could make it play perfectly on the 3DS, absolutely we’d love to do it.”

Axiom Verge is coming to Wii U on September 1. According to Happ, it’ll be the game’s best version.

Nikkei reports that, in conjunction with East Japan Marketing & Communications, Capcom will be making a game for Nintendo’s handheld in Japan “that draw on players’ train ridership and other data captured from transit smart cards.”

A system is already in place which uses “Sony’s FeliCa contactless smart card technology to read transit card data into the 3DS.” East Japan Railway’s Suica and West Japan Railway’s Icoca are among ten smartcard systems that are compatible. Ridership data such as station entries is mainly used, though personal information is not stored.

Nikkei further reports that “Capcom aims to use transit data to enhance gamers’ experience, for example by rewarding players visiting certain stations with special items.” One social game is already on the way that features over 9,000 stations in Japan.

Update (8/23): Niantic’s site post indicated that the new Pokemon GO update was available yesterday, but it looks like it took a bit longer than expected to fully roll out. It should be fully available on both iOS and Android now.

Original (8/22): A new Pokemon GO update can now be downloaded on all devices. The new version is 0.35.0 for Android and 1.5.0 for iOS.

The big addition this time around is the Pokemon Appraisal. Here’s the lowdown on that:

“Trainers will now be able to learn about a Pokémon’s attack and defense capabilities from their Team Leader (Candela, Blanche or Spark) to determine which of their Pokémon have the most potential for battle.”

Niantic also says there are “Minor bot fixes” with today’s update.

It’s also worth mentioning that the company says it’s “still working hard on several new and exciting features to come in the future”.
