Masahiro Sakurai published a new column in the latest issue of Famitsu. His piece is entirely about Satoru Iwata, who just recently passed away.
Sakurai started out by stating the following when he heard the news: “My mind went white and even now the reality hasn’t sunk in.”
He then remembers the early days, and recalled how Iwata had been one of the interviewers when Sakurai applied for a job at HAL Laboratory Inc. “Our positions and locations changed throughout our long association,” he said. “He was the best superior I ever had and a man who understood me better than anyone.”
Later in his piece, Sakurai described Iwata in the following five ways:
He was a man of virtue. Where a normal person would get annoyed or angry, he would never show such emotions and would instead analyze, organize, and offer ideas. He was someone who could bow his head and apologize for things that weren’t his fault. I often worried about his stress levels, but he always talked with a smile.
He had a brilliant mind. Even when people would talk at length or without focus he was able to quickly say, “so, what you’re trying to say is…” and quickly summarize their point. He was able to see to the heart of people and things and was a master of simplifying them so that anyone could understand their point. He could immediately make a call on changes to improve. I have no doubt that many people were saved by this quality.
He was a man of effort. Even though he didn’t start out in the managing field, he read numerous management books, he would ask for advice from the necessary people that he would take to heart, and managed to become the president of Nintendo. What he gained from his years as a programmer allowed him to take many long-term projects to successful fruition.

The N-ZAP ’89 and Octobrush were just added to Splatoon on Friday, but the game has already been updated with another two weapons. Players can now begin using the E-liter 3K Scope as well as the Neo Splash-o-matic.
The official overview of the E-liter 3K Scope is as follows:
Now, I’m not sure you amateur squid researchers are able to gather this from the name, but this here’s an E-liter 3K fitted with a scope. (Don’t worry. As you guys work your way up to Squid Researcher status, this stuff will start to come naturally.) The scope narrows your field of view, but you can acquire and snipe targets from extremely far away.
And here’s the rundown of Neo Splash-o-matic:
Now, this here Neo Splash-o-matic may look a lot like the Splash-o-matic, but it’s got different sub and special weapons, enabling you to use a whole new fighting style. Enemies incoming? Pick ‘em off with Burst Bombs. Enemies in the distance? Take ‘em out with the Inkzooka.
Footage of today’s new weapons is posted below.
Nintendo’s rhythm game/music creation tool Band Brothers P might have bombed big time at retail, but it seems that they’re still trying to push sales and increase the player base with this new version of the title. The cheaper ‘Debut’ edition has the same rhythm gameplay as the original, but certain features like the music composer are unavailable, while others like the recording feature are locked behind a paywall. Better pony up fifteen of the game’s virtual currency, tomatoes (around eight US dollars), if you want to make your own creepy Vocaloid character.
Previously this version was only available via a download code from those who already owned the full version, but as of today it’s up on the eShop for everyone (in Japan, at least). At 200 yen it’s not quite free to play, but it comes with an extra set of five songs that weren’t included with the retail version: Dragon Night, Senbonzakura, Mondai Girl, 360 degrees and SHINING LINE. Like the original game, any extra songs need to be bought with tomatoes, but you can play with others online even if you don’t own the same songs.
