Update: We now have the official announcement with actual details.

First, an overview:

Times have changed in the land known as the Oasis of the Harvest Goddess. Many people used to live in Skytree Village, and the land was lush and green. However, the power of the Harvest Goddess gradually began to wane, and the land became parched and dry.

It’s up to you revive the seven Skytrees in order to give the Harvest Goddess her power back, and, in turn, bring life back to this desolate land!

Natsume says that Harvest Moon: Skytree Village will include new characters, but with some returning faces. It’ll also offer a new art style, new character models, and more.

When it comes to features, the game will have new crops and flowers, new fishing mechanics, and the option to play as a boy or a girl. Natsume is also packing in “user-friendly tutorials” so that “players will immediately be able to jump into the thick of things, customizing their farm by raising and lowering the land, creating rivers, ponds, and more.” That’s in addition to upgraded tools to “assist farmers in shaping the land more efficiently”.

We’ve posted the official announcement after the break.

Harvest Moon: Skytree Village is in development for 3DS, Natsume announced today. The title will be playable at E3 2016 later this month.

Natsume just shared the news on Twitter with the following message:

We don’t have any additional details at the moment, but we’ll let you know if/when we hear anything else.

Following recent leaks, Activision has made the next entry in the Skylanders series official. Skylanders Imaginators will launch on October 16 for Wii U and other platforms. Unlike past years, there’s no sign of Wii and 3DS versions.

Details that we heard about yesterday were spot on. Skylanders Imaginators will let players make their own Skylanders for the first time, there will be a new elementally-aligned toy type called the Creation Crystal, and Skylanders Senseis are being introduced.

You can find the first Skylanders Imaginators below. We’ve also included the official announcement with more details after the break.

Activision will soon be announcing the next entry in the Skylanders series. Based on some apparent leaks, it seems that the new game will be titled “Skylanders: Imaginators”.

Main developer Toys for Bob is back as the main developer of the project. Wii U is a target platform, but there’s no word on Wii or 3DS versions at present.

The big hook this time around is that it’ll be possible to make your own Skylanders, which go by the name Skylanders Imaginators. Additionally, there’s a new toy type known as Creation Crystal which “allows players to create and transport their unique Skylanders to consoles at anytime, anywhere”. New guest stars called “Senseis” are also being introduced which features 20 new characters and 11 former villains.

More unconfirmed – but probable – information about Skylanders: Imaginators can be found below. We’ve also included some images that have surfaced thus far in the attached gallery. The game is scheduled for October 16 in North America.

IronFall Invasion developer VD-Dev has announced its next project. This winter, the studio will be launching “RISE: Race The Future”.

Here’s what we know thus far:

RISE: Race The Future is a racing game set in a near future where a new kind of wheel technology will let you race on all type of terrains and especially on water.

The racing style is arcade oriented and based on mastering extreme drifts. One of the clear inspiration is Sega Rally.

In addition to the arcade mode, a history mode will allow the player to unlock the futuristic cars exclusively designed for the game. Throughout the progression the enigmatic sci-fi scenario will also reveal the real purpose of RISE: Race The Future.

VD-Dev is working with professional automotive designer Anthony Jannarelly on RISE: Race The Future. Jannarelly penned a couple of supercars for W Motors: the Lykan Hypersport and the Fenyr Supersport. He’s also produced the “curvy retrofuturistic roadster named Design-1 whose evolutions will appear in RISE: Race the future”.

A teaser trailer for RISE: Race The Future can be found below. The game will be released in Winter 2016 on Wii U and 3DS, though an NX version can also be expected next year.

Dragon Quest IX ending up as a DS exclusive was a big deal back in the day. But how’d that come about in any case?

During the Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Countdown Special this past week, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino spoke about how he convinced series creator Yuji Horii to make IX for DS. Hino was also developing Professor Layton at that time, and Nintendo’s portable was experiencing great momentum. Horii hesitated at first and questioned having a numbered Dragon Quest game on a handheld, but Hino kept pushing him to do it.

Horii became a big fan of the tag mode in Dragon Quest IX, which would end up partially inspiring StreetPass support for the 3DS. He liked how it connected the game world and real world together.

Horii also said that his wish is just to “have Dragon Quest be enjoyed by as many people as possible”.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve blindly followed Nintendo through all of their expenditures to varying degrees of success. I remember the times with my GameCube and Game Boy as vividly as the experiences I spent on my Wii U just yesterday. There’s always been a certain charm that has resonated with me in games by the big N, and most of that comes from not only the spectacularly well-designed games that come often enough to keep me hooked, but also from the lovable characters that inhabit them.

But Kirby has never been one of the characters that came to mind when I thought of what I love about Nintendo. During all my gaming experiences as a child it appears Kirby was all but completely absent from those memories, and that’s mostly thanks to me never actually picking up this side-scrolling mascot’s games. My logic has always been “what can Kirby do that Mario doesn’t already do better?”. After picking up Kirby: Planet Robobot, however, I soon fell in love with this puff of pink and understood what diversifies him from Nintendo’s other platforming greats.

One year ago, Splatoon launched around the world. Having sold over four million copies, it’s one of the most successful Wii U games, making it an impressive debut for a new IP.

Splatoon underwent an amazing transformation since its initial reveal at E3 2014. There were gamers who were on board with the concept to start out with, but there was definitely some skepticism surrounding the title. That started to fade away closer to release as Nintendo shared more information. You could even argue that post-launch helped since new features, maps, and weapons were added in addition to fairly regular Splatfests.

Now that Splatoon is celebrating its one year anniversary, how do you feel about the game? Has your opinion changed at all since the original announcement/after launch? Let us know in the comments below!

Highlights from last week’s topic: Nintendo and movies

German Nintendo outlet ntower recently had an opportunity to speak with Ryozo Tsujimoto and Shintaro Kojima from Capcom about Monster Hunter Generations. The interview is entirely in German, but the website was kind enough to pass along the most important points in English.

There are actually some very noteworthy tidbits here. For starters, we now know that the west is getting some exclusive DLC (such as the Fire Emblem and Okami costumes) in place of some downloadable content that won’t be making it over. Other tidbits were also shared such as how there are no plans to bring the series back to Nintendo consoles currently.
