Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma shared an official message about Majora’s Mask 3D over on Miiverse earlier today. There was one piece of information that was very noteworthy.

According to Aonuma, work on Majora’s Mask 3D began “almost immediately” after the completion of Ocarina of Time 3D. That means this project has been in development for a few years. Aonuma said “we didn’t want to say it was being developed until we were at a point where we could proudly say that this is not going to be just another remake and that it’s going to be worth your time.”

Later in his Miiverse post, Aonuma also reiterated what Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during this week’s Nintendo Direct. The gameplay experience will be “smoother” than the original title, though the team is staying true to the original world.

Head past the break for Aonuma’s full message about Majora’s Mask 3D.

Here’s your weekly Discussing Everything reminder! Per usual, the event will begin at 4 PM ET / 1 PM PT / 9 PM in the UK this Sunday. There’s going to be plenty to talk about thanks to this week’s Nintendo Direct!

Everything we’ve seen thus far of amiibo has been limited to first-party content. However, Nintendo is now looking into ways its third-party partners can integrate figures into their games.

Nintendo of America licensing manager Damon Baker told IGN:

“We’re having those conversations and we’re still early on because amiibo isn’t even going to launch until later this month. We’re excited to see how that pans out but there’s a ton of interest from our third-party partners and we’re looking at what makes sense in terms of business models and levels of integration. There are really creative ideas that are coming through and we are working towards some opportunities for next year.”

Marketing director David Wharton also said:

“Think about our implementation for our products, it’s really developer-centric. It’s really about opening up new capabilities and new ways of extending the value of games and bringing the functionality into games. As a company we’re interested in as many different creative explorations of that functionality. Exactly what that’s going to be in the future, not only for third-party but first-party, that story has yet to be written. We’ve got a couple of examples of how it’s going to look today — but imagine the future, the sky is the limit.”

A new stage today, Wuhu Island as first seen in the original Wii Fit! Sakurai explains:

He continues:

For example, here’s the starting line of a power-cruising race. You may also find yourself at a mountain summit, in front of a fountain, on a suspension bridge, in a fighting arena, or riding on a boat. The stage really feels like a resort vacation.

I’ve been so busy with developing this game that I dreamed about tropical islands every time I saw this stage. …Beaches in the summer are great, aren’t they?

Splatoon plot overview

Posted on 10 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in News | 3 Comments

The official Splatoon Twitter account posted a plot overview a short while ago. Here’s a translation:

Investigative Report from the Squid Research Lab. The protagonist, wearing the Hero Suit, travels through this underground world. The Octopus Army Corps, hoping to invade the Squid’s world, built this underground facility. Is it just me that feels the Octopus’ longing for the world above-ground from the blue sky projected onto those large monitors?

Nintendo showed a first look Splatoon’s single-player during a Nintendo Direct presentation yesterday. Along with a campaign, the game will feature an extensive multiplayer mode.

Nintendo is launching a pair of transparent 2DS systems in Europe tomorrow. It appears that there are plans to bring the same handheld to North America, but only in blue.

A leaked ad from Target confirms that the “2DS Crystal” will be available on November 16. You’ll be able to purchase it on release day for $100 ($30 in savings).

Although an official announcement about the new 2DS variation has yet to be made for North America, we’ll probably hear something within the next few days.
