Nintendo Labo

TIME was recently able to speak with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime about Nintendo Labo. The first topic discussed is the potential to expand on the idea and the use of the Toy-Cons, of which Reggie had this to share:

“Can [the Toy-Cons] be incorporated into other forms of gameplay? Certainly. But right now we think if we effectively communicate the power of the idea with Nintendo Labo [and] really enable players to make their creations, personalize them, and enjoy the [inherent] gameplay experiences . . . We think that’s going to be a great way to start and then progress down the path.”

Nintendo has posted an official announcement for its new Switch project Nintendo Labo. We’ve attached in full below.

Nintendo has opened the North American website for the just-revealed Nintendo Labo. You can access it here.

Along with an overview of the product, it also provides the following rundown of the Variety Kit and Robo Kit as well as the Customization Set:

You can see here that Nintendo’s Japanese website has posted something strange.

With the combined power of Google Translate and common sense, below is a translation of the page’s message:

2018.1.18 7:00
On January 18, 2018 [Thursday] we will introduce “New play” using Nintendo Switch at 7:00 on this page.

This was cryptic indeed, until Nintendo UK threw their hats in too. They have a similar page, and it says the following:

10PM UK time
Tune in to discover a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specifically crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart.

It seems from the UK’s message that news on the rumored Nintendo Direct is out of the picture. However, something is coming in the next twelve hours. Stay tuned, as we will keep you updated if more information arrives.

Update: Bumped to the top. Nintendo says that its previously-announced February 3 date is incorrect; the new Nintendo Selects prices go live on February 5.

Original: Nintendo has announced that a trio of 3DS games will soon be joining the Nintendo Selects line. On February 3, Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Ultimate NES Remix will be sold for $19.99 each.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft will have some Nintendo-related news to share soon. That’s based on a new tweet from one of the company’s employees at the company’s Montreal studio.

Here’s the tweet in question:

What’s being teased here could be one of many things. One possibility is some news on Steep, which we assume is still in the works given that Ubisoft hasn’t said anything about a cancellation. This same Ubisoft staffer had said in August that Steep was still happening on Switch.

Update: We’ve heard from Finji that the release date on the eShop is wrong, which was apparently the company’s fault. Night in the Woods will now release slightly later than expected on February 1.

Original: A few months ago, it was strongly suggested that the acclaimed adventure game Night in the Woods would eventually arrive on Switch. We now have confirmation that it’s happening.

A listing on the eShop shows that Night in the Woods is coming to Switch – and apparently very soon. Finji will apparently publish the game on January 18 for $19.99.
