Pokemon GO is the most successful mobile launch in history, according to SuperData Research. It surpassed Monster Strike as the top mobile game, and managed to take first place in top-grossing and top-download rankings for every country it launched in.

Global digital game sales in July were up 10 percent year-over-year to $5.9 billion. Thanks to Pokemon GO, the mobile category grew 16 percent from a year ago.

Pokemon GO also positively impacted Nintendo hardware and software. As SuperData notes:

“Nintendo’s mobile strategy ended up paying off exactly as intended. 3DS unit sales rose by over 50 percent from a year ago, an astonishing feat for underpowered hardware nearing the end of its lifespan. Furthermore, sales of 3DS games boomed. Combined sales of Pokémon Omega Red and Alpha Sapphire and Pokémon X and Y (2015 and 2013 releases) nearly doubled. Pokémon Go is the only factor that can explain jumps in sales of this magnitude. We are optimistic that mobile spin-offs for Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing will have a positive impact on Nintendo’s ecosystem.”

The eShop listing for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice is now live in North America. On it, something is confirmed that we were all more or less counting on.

In one of the screenshots, the English menu is shown confirming Spirit of Justice’s DLC for the west. It’s right there when you start the game under “Extras and DLC”. There really was no reason to think that North America and Europe wouldn’t have the same access as Japan given how Capcom handled the series’ last release, Dual Destinies. Still, there you go.

As for what you can look forward to, the big addition in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice was the extra “Turnabout Across Time” case. Capcom also created costumes for Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, and Athena Cykes plus a couple of brief non-canon stories that mainly featured the former two characters.

At E3, Axiom Verge creator Tom Happ said he was looking into a potential 3DS port. That’s something which still hasn’t been ruled out, but technical challenges could prevent it from happening.

Dan Adelman, who has worked with Happ, was asked by Nintendo World Report for another update on Axiom Verge possibly coming to 3DS at Gamescom last week. Here’s the latest on that front:

“We would love to, but we’re looking into the technical feasibility. Even though the graphics/artstyle is very retro-looking, there’s actually a lot that’s technically going on under the hood. It’s always funny when people look at it and say ‘Oh, you could run that on the NES’, and I laugh because there’s no way you could run that on a NES. It really pushes the Wii U hardware. We’re investigating what it would take to bring it to the 3DS. We probably wouldn’t be able to, if we were able to do it at all, there would have to be some compromises made. We don’t know what those compromises would be, and if it’s not going to be a great experience we don’t want to do it. We’re looking into it now, if I had a magic wand and could make it play perfectly on the 3DS, absolutely we’d love to do it.”

Axiom Verge is coming to Wii U on September 1. According to Happ, it’ll be the game’s best version.
