General Nintendo

The Nintendo UK store has opened pre-orders for LEGO Super Mario. You can reserve the main Starter Course as well as the various expansions.

If interested, you can place a pre-order here. LEGO Super Mario launches on August 1.

Update: This has now been teased by LEGO on social media (thanks Justin):

Nintendo and LEGO kicked off a new partnership with LEGO Super Mario. It seems that the two sides will be collaborating beyond LEGO, as a new leak has apparently outed the existence of the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System.

The upcoming product features a small TV and cartridge. In total, it comes with 2,646 pieces.

Donkey Kong Country TV show

Back in 1997, Nintendo and animation company Medialab Technology formed a partnership to produce a computer-animated TV series based on Donkey Kong Country. A total of 40 episodes were ultimately produced.

Writer Simon Racioppa spoke about the experience as part of an interview with Polygon. He noted that the show had a “bible” with basic rules, but there wasn’t much in the way of story restrictions or input from Nintendo.

He said:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice

Takeshi Yamazaki has announced that he’s leaving Capcom after 15 years. Yamazaki worked on the Ace Attorney series since its earliest days, and has been a director / head writer on the Ace Attorney Investigations titles plus Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice.

“Although leaving a company is always painful, I like to think of this as ‘graduating’,” Yamazaki said in a tweet translated by Court-Records. “I’m truly glad I was able to make games and meet the Ace Attorney series at Capcom.”

Yamazaki intends to continue working with game development, but also intends to take on new challenges.

Five years ago, late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata passed away. Iwata died on July 11, 2015. We’re bringing this up now as it’s July 11 in Japan.

Iwata had many accomplishments as both a game developer and businessman. He started out at Kirby developer HAL Laboratory and spent two decades with the studio. In 2000, Iwata joined Nintendo and became the company’s new president just a couple of years later. He would end up working in this hospital up until his passing.

Iwata is still missed to this day, but his legacy won’t be forgotten.

Pokemon is a massive franchise worldwide, but that wasn’t always in the case. There was initial uncertainty as to whether it would take off, especially in North America. We know that some changes were made for Pokemon names, but it looks like there were some outlandish suggestions to go further beyond that.

In a video posted by Did You Know Gaming?, we learn about some peculiar origins for Pokemon, and especially Pikachu. It turns out that a redesign was proposed for the creature that involved “something like a tiger with huge breasts.” That’s according to Tsunekazu Ishihara, the CEO of The Pokemon Company.

The full quote from Ishihara is as follows:

My Nintendo has added in another reward in North America. Tying in with next week’s launch of Paper Mario: The Origami King, a July calendar is available.

After the coronavirus began to spread, Nintendo’s North American online store closed off orders for physical products. It’s been about three months since then, but now things have now opened back up.

You can again visit the online store and place orders here. Consoles, games, and amiibo are all up for grabs. Just keep in mind that orders may take a bit longer to process.
