General Nintendo

Nintendo has been battling it out with MariCar since 2017. The Big N filed an IP infringement lawsuit in 2017 against the go-kart company that let drivers dress up as Mario Kart characters. Nintendo won the case, and though MariCar attempted an appeal, it was just dismissed by Japan’s Supreme Court.

MariCar was initially ordered to pay Nintendo 10 million yen ($97,000). After an appeal, the amount was increased to 50 million yen ($483,000).

As is tradition for Famitsu, the magazine spoke with a ton of different developers about their ambitions for 2021. One developer who participated was Keisuke Kekuchi, who’s leading the Gust brand at Koei Tecmo and is also the producer of Fatal Frame.

Kekuchi shared the following with Famitsu, as translated by Nintendo Everything:

Starlight Nintendo Switch Gaming Station

It was around this time last year that Starlight Children’s Foundation and Nintendo unveiled the Starlight Nintendo Switch Gaming Station. We now have a follow-up as these units are starting to make their way to hospitals and health care facilities across the United States.

Each station has 25 games pre-loaded, including Super Mario Party and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s important to note that they have been “manufactured to meet strict infection safety protocols” and can be rolled anywhere in the hospital.

The LEGO Super Mario line is expanding in a big way to kick off 2021. A bunch of new products are in the pipeline, including the Master Your Adventure Maker Set, Chain Chomp Jungle Encounter Expansion Set, Piranha Plant Puzzling Challenge Expansion Set, Wiggler’s Poison Swamp Expansion Set, Penguin Mario Power-Up Pack, and the Tanooki Mario Power-Up Pack. Series 2 of the LEGO Super Mario Character Packs will be made available as well.

Here’s a bunch of photos showing off what’s to come for LEGO Super Mario:

Kanye West

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that an opportunity once came about to work with rapper, record producer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur Kanye West on a video game. However, it was something that never came to be in the end.

During E3 many years ago, Kanye West visited Nintendo’s area, and was even able to spend a bit of time with Shigeru Miyamoto. Later on, he wanted to arrange for a meeting with Reggie as well. Despite the craziness happening with E3, the two ended up getting together at Kanye’s business office for his fashion business in Calibasas.

Reggie recounted the experience in which he said:

Mother shop

Hobonichi recently set up new Mother shops in Japan based on the EarthBound series. A location previously opened in Osaka for a couple of weeks, followed by another in Tokyo, which will close on December 27.

If you’re an EarthBound series, you’ll find that these shops are almost like treasure troves. There’s a slew of merchandise to pick up such as Mother: The Complete Scripts, plushies, jewelry, and more.

Many fans – especially ones in the west – probably won’t be able to make it to these limited-time shops. However, Twitter user masato_furuya did share a whole bunch of photos a few days ago. We’ve rounded them up below.

Nintendo has shared a couple of pieces of art to ring in the holiday season. Along with one for Animal Crossing, we’ve also got a design featuring Kirby. Both pieces can be found in this post.
