Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler was led by producers Masashi Takahashi and Tomoya Asano. As some dedicated fans may know, both of these developers were responsible for the Bravely games on 3DS.

Bravely Default came out in 2012. Its sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, followed in 2015. Octopath Traveler then arrived in 2018. The pattern here is that the team behind these projects has been putting out games once every three years. The good news is that in the future, the wait between titles may decrease.

The Wii Remote and nunchuck weren’t always intended to be a controller pair for a new Nintendo console. In fact, they were initially prototyped for the GameCube before they eventually turned into their own thing on Wii.

All of these years later, spmrp has managed to obtain those prototypes, and has shared a number of photos online. We’re able to see how their looks were quite different – especially the Wii Remote. Hit up the gallery below for a few different images.

Following up on Agatha Knife, Mango Protocol is readying its next game for Switch. MechaNika, which was confirmed for the eShop back during the summer, now has a proper release date of November 8.

MechaNika promises “a whole new darkly sarcastic adventure with fascinating characters, each with their own twisted story, many puzzles with different ways to be solved, and more stunning hand-drawn visuals.” We have a few additional details and a trailer below.

As mentioned earlier this week, Super Mario Odyssey is celebrating its first anniversary with a mini event. 8-bit Toads and Luigis are showing up in New Donk City’s festival where players can earn a bunch of coins. Check out some footage from the event below.

To our surprise, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is playable at PAX Australia this weekend with a few different levels and all of its characters. Eric is attending the show and managed to capture a few minutes of off-screen footage for us. Hit up the video below for a look at Toadette (and Peachette!), Nabbit, and more.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t terribly far off, but there’s still a good amount that we don’t know about the game. There are still characters to be announced, an entire mode to be discussed, and details about online play to be shared. When it comes to online functionality, there’s one small but possibly noteworthy tidbit starting to make the rounds.

Japanese retailer GEO has started distributing a pamphlet for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. On one page, it’s stated that up to 32 players will be supported online. That probably doesn’t mean we’ll see 32-player battles in regular matches, but that could extend to a certain online mode or feature.

Fire Emblem Heroes is hosting a new event as of today. Players can participate in Forging Bonds: Dueling Desires, which will last until November 10.

Croixleur Sigma

Croixleur Sigma is due out on the Switch eShop – at least in Japan – starting next week. Watch a new trailer for the game below.

Ubisoft and Blue Mammoth Games are putting Brawlhalla on Switch on November 6. But if you’d like to give it a try early, that might be possible. That’s because fans now have the chance to register for early access.

Those who are selected will receive a follow-up email sometime after registering. Everything earned will carry over to the final release.

When Mario Kart 64 debuted many years ago, it was accompanied by a strategy guide in Japan. Several developers participated in an interview, which has finally been translated by shumpalations. For us, some of the most interesting comments came about when discussing original plans for the game.

We first get to hear from director Hideki Konno about how mini-turbos were originally intended to be a hidden feature. Furthermore, the color of the smoke initially remained the same.
