The March 2015 NPD results were reported on Thursday. Nintendo neglected to share hardware sales, but we do have a couple of very close estimates. The family of 3DS systems sold roughly 260,000 – 270,000 units while Wii U moved about 80,000 – 85,000 units.

Aside from hardware sales, we have data for two 3DS titles that debuted in North America last month. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. sold just 31,000 units, based on a figure provided by reliable NPD leaker “creamsugar”. Fossil Fighters: Frontier also launched last month and managed to sell roughly 35,000 copies.

That’s not all on the NPD front, as cremsugar shared a few lifetime U.S. sales figures for Wii U titles as well. Those are as follows:

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – roughly 326,000 units
ZombiU – roughly 204,000 units
Bayonetta 2 – roughly 157,000 units
The Wonderful 101 – roughly 104,000 units

Nintendo Life reached out to the folks at Unity in hopes of obtaining additional information about the engine’s support on New 3DS. The one notable piece of information obtained by the site is that when Unity comes to Nintendo’s handheld, it will be based on the latest version.

This was the full exchange between the two sides:

Is there a timeframe for this support to be active?

– We’re not ready to discuss release timelines currently.

Will this utilise the latest version (5.1) of the engine?

– New Nintendo 3DS will be part of the most recent version of Unity at the time of release.

Are there any plans regarding the original Nintendo 3DS models?

– Only support for the New Nintendo 3DS was announced.

Unity support was announced for New 3DS during the Unite 2015 Tokyo event in Japan earlier this week.

We’re still waiting on the March 2015 NPD chart, but Nintendo has already delivered its response for the month.

Several statistics were highlighted in the new press release. According to the company, sales for Nintendo hardware systems thus far in 2015 “have increased by nearly 60 percent over sales during the same time frame in 2014.”

Other than that, we know that Mario Party 10 sold close to 290,000 copies in its first two weeks on the U.S. market, cumulative Smash Bros. Wii U and Mario Kart 8 sales are at 1.6 million and 1.9 million units respectively, and more.

Head past the break for today’s full announcement and sales data.

Game Informer was able to conduct an interview with Monolith Soft’s Tetsuya Takahashi, Nintendo, and Monster Games about Xenoblade Chronicles. Takahashi was able to speak about the original game while discussing cut ideas like wanting to have the ability to fly. He also revealed Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai wanted Shulk in the Wii U/3DS games, and had the idea for the bathing suit skin. Other than that, there’s some Xenoblade Chronicles 3D-specific comments from Monster Games.

We’ve rounded up all of the various quotes below. For those that are interested, you can find Game Informer’s original article here.

Over on Facebook, Nintendo added a few pieces of concept art for Xenoblade Chronicles’ Shulk. You can find the full set below, along with descriptions from Monolith Soft of the first four images.

Shulk is a composed, intellectual character, not the sort of person to let his emotions get the best of him. I chose an appearance and outfit that, by RPG hero standards, isn’t too aggressive.

The way that the design expresses details with textures and color shades within limited polygon resources.

It expresses Shulk as a character who isn’t a soldier, but a research and designer who works on weapons for Colony 9’s military and tools for its people.

There weren’t any major changes, just things like whether we should make the clothing red or blue.
