It’s a new month, and now that Mario Golf: Super Rush has reset its Ranked Match for January 2022, players can get their hands on a new reward based on Mario’s classic look in NES Open Tournament Golf.

Just like with previous events, there’s not a whole lot involved with the unlock process. Players only need to reach the rank of A- or above within the next month. This can be done by playing matches online in Ranked Match, playing well against others, and defeating higher ranked opponents. The NES Open Tournament Golf outfit can be selected once unlocked by going to the select screen in Mario Golf: Super Rush, hovering over the character, and hitting the “L” button to swap outfits.

After it was announced a few months ago, the LEGO Super Mario – Luigi’s Mansion Expansion Set has now arrived. Nintendo has also published a trailer to celebrate the occasion.

Here’s some information about the new set:

Publisher Hitcents and developer HardBoiled Studios have announced that the physics-based platformer Yolked is on the way to Switch. A release is planned for 2022.

Yolked has players following the escape of an eggs with arms. You’ll be avoiding enemies and overcoming obstacles, collecting costumes, and ensuring that they don’t crack. As a platformer, there’s climbing, mantling, and swinging involved to get past environmental hazards and dangers.

Listings on the eShops provide file sizes for a bunch of Switch games. These include Shadow Man Remastered, Putt-Putt Travels Through Time, Freddi Fish 3, and more.

Japanese magazine Famitsu previously published a developer interview for New Pokemon Snap. Two key people involved with the project participated in the discussion: Pokemon president Tsunekazu Ishihara and director Haruki Suzaki.

One of the early topics discussed is the game’s origins. At one point, Ishihara again explained that there were talks about bringing Pokemon Snap back for previous Nintendo consoles. However, the idea of taking photos isn’t as novel these days, “so it was a difficult concept to design an game around.”

Ishihara explained:

A previous issue of Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream featured an interview with some of the core staff involved in the production of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity where they spoke candidly about their experiences developing the game. The discussion included development producer Masaki Furusawa, director Ryouta Matsushita, producer Yousuke Hayashi, and art director Yuu Oohashi.

One of the team’s biggest challenges while developing the game is probably not something you’d expect – the grass. According to the staff, it took the team half of the development time to get it right and involved hundreds of people from departments all over Koei Tecmo.

Here’s our translation of that excerpt:

A new month (and a new year!) started up today. Now that we’re in January, we want to know what you’ve been playing.

Things have slowed down a bit in terms of new releases, but there’s still plenty to play. In December alone we saw the likes of Danganronpa Decadence, Life is Strange: True Colors, Sam and Max Beyond Time and Space, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, Loop Hero, Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, Chicory: A Colorful Tale, and more.

What games have you been playing as of late? Have you tried out any of the new titles or are you going through something in your backlog? No matter the case, let us know in the comments below.

To kick off 2022, Square Enix has posted the official boxart for Triangle Strategy. Although it’s in Japanese, the same design is expected to be used in other regions as well – so pretty much everything should be the same.
