Rumor: Nintendo funding Beyond Good & Evil 2, planned as an NX exclusive

Destructoid is reporting that Nintendo is funding Beyond Good & Evil 2. Better yet, the site claims that the game is planned as an NX exclusive for 2017. It would be a move similar to that of Bayonetta 2 on Wii U, which could help Nintendo generate goodwill with gamers by helping bring the much-desired sequel to its new platform as an exclusive.
Destructoid’s initial source originates from Alexander Maier, who recently posted a series of rumors about NX which I personally found rather dubious. However, the outlet “also reached out to a second source, who independently gave a number of the same bullet points regarding the future of Beyond Good and Evil. The number of points of crossover between these two sources suggests that this rumor, while not confirmed by Nintendo, may hold water.”
The new game may be currently carrying the working title “Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers”. This is said to be “a reference to a specific chapter in the philosophical text Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche, which details how morality can be altered by authority, and the ways black-and-white morality overlooks the larger complexity of the nature of morals.”
As with all rumors, we can’t stress enough that this report should be taken with a grain of salt. If it were to be accurate though, it’d be a very interesting move on Nintendo’s part.

Rumor: Details about tomorrow’s European Nintendo Direct leaked

Dutch website N1ntendo, an outlet with a fairly decent reputation, claims to have information about tomorrow’s European Nintendo Direct. There is some reason to be skeptical, and there is no guarantee that all of the items posted will be presented during tomorrow’s broadcast. That being said, now that we’re aware of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Generations trademark which was included in N1ntendo’s leak, there is a reason to share the rumored lineup (which may or may not be incomplete).

On Monday, NeoGAF user “Trevelyan9999” posted alleged details regarding NX and Nintendo’s lineup for 2016. I usually tend to be skeptical when it comes to rumors from sources that I’m unfamiliar with or aren’t widely known, so I held off on sharing that on the site. However, new information has since come to light indicating that Trevelyan9999 may have been spot on.
Let’s go over the actual information first. Here’s a look at everything that was posted:
– Zelda Wii U will also be available for NX
– Zelda NX to be a holiday 2016 release either same day as Zelda Wii U or shortly after during the Nintendo NX holiday 2016 launch window
– Nintendo NX launch games for 2016 besides Zelda NX and marketing focus remain hidden for now
– Wii U $34.5 million marketing budget for 2016 total – Zelda Wii U has $10 million with the possibility of the funding being switched to Zelda NX version depending on launch timing in 2016.

Byte 4 Games supposedly making Mech Super eXtended for NX

Byte 4 Games, a studio from Spain, is apparently planning “Mech Super eXtended” for NX along with other platforms. This news was spotted on the LinkedIn profile of the game’s director.
At least so far, we haven’t been able to track down any information about Mech Super eXtended, so we’re marking this post as a rumor just to be safe. Byte 4 Games has also been creating the multiplatform arcade shooter Demon’s Crystal, which is slated for Wii U.

Rumor: EA has had NX dev kits for awhile, other tidbits

Update: Some additional rumored details from Nintendo Life:
– Information comes from “several” EA staffers
– EA was apparently one of the first publishers to get access to NX development hardware
– Nintendo is citing EA as a key ally when it comes to making its next console a success
– Multiple meetings in March
– Meetings will apparently decide how much support EA (EA Sports) arm will be giving Nintendo in the near future
– EA wants “a detailed plan” on how Nintendo intends to win over sports fans with NX
– EA is keen to learn how Nintendo intends to build up a large enough “sports” audience on NX
– This was apparently one of the key reasons for the publisher abandoning Wii U
– EA is asking Nintendo to spend more advertising dollars during televised sporting events like NFL games, NBA games, MLB games, World Cup matches and the World Series in order to claim this audience
– EA is citing the fact that both Sony and Microsoft spend a large portion of cash during such events, and that EA’s titles are given prominence in promotional campaigns
– Sources see Nintendo not bundling EA games with consoles as an insult; both Sony and Microsoft are involved with such bundles
– The company will be asking Nintendo to consider shipping NX consoles with leading EA Sports titles, such as FIFA and Madden
– During a December meeting between EA and Nintendo executives, an EA exec “criticized Wii U for not having entertainment apps for MLB.TV, NBA, WWE Network, NHL Gamecenter Live, and the NFL”
– EA believes PS4 having these apps is a key reason for the machine’s success among sports fans
– EA wants NX to be able to run such apps or offer similar functionality
As relayed on Twitter by Liam Robertson, someone well-known for discovering information about cancelled games and other industry news, EA is in rumored to be in possession of NX development kits. Furthermore, they’ve apparently had them for awhile.
Robertson has also said that Nintendo and EA will meet in March “to hash things out and discuss potential plans.” It sounds like EA wants to pursue cross promotions such as sports console bundles. Robertson added that “EA wants Nintendo to help them cultivate an audience for sports fans if they’re going to go on board with NX.”

Rumor: Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice now slated for Fall 2016, Mario & Sonic Wii U in June

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice was originally slated for Fall 2015. Last September though, SEGA ended up pushing the game back to sometime this year. We’ve yet to receive any news updates since then.
A photo taken at Tomy’s booth from the New York Toy Fair may have revealed an updated release window. If what’s mentioned by the toy manufacturer is accurate, we won’t be seeing Fire & Ice until sometime this fall.
That’s not all though. Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wii U is rumored for June. And for those interested in the Sonic Boom cartoon, that’s apparently set to return this fall as well.

Original (2/10): For its overseas version, Fire Emblem Fates appears to have removed some swimsuits. GameSpot hosted a live stream of the English release earlier today which shows that only the Bath Towel can be purchased from the Accessory Shop in the body section. Meanwhile, the Japanese version featured several more such as the “Risque Swimsuit” (level 1 at the shop just like the Bath Towel).
This doesn’t seem to be a matter of GameSpot being early on in Fire Emblem Fates. Now, it’s true that we have seen footage of some characters in swimsuits via English gameplay, but that may have just been what was offered as the default option. We’ll still consider this a rumor for the time being until the situation is absolutely clarified.

Rumor: Star Fox Zero facing development issues over the game’s motion controls

Some rumors regarding Star Fox Zero’s development have been floating around the internet lately, but since there was no credible source attached, we haven’t reported on them. This has now changed since Liam Robertson has weighed in on the rumors – he has an excellent track record and has proven to be a reliable source, making these rumors a lot more credible. Furthermore, Nintendo Life has followed up with Robertson and got some additional confirmation and comments from him.
It seems that Star Fox Zero’s motion controls are causing some issues and might lead to the game not passing Nintendo of Europe’s Quality Assurance check. Robertson says that the Nintendo of Europe QA team is “concerned” about players’ reactions to the game’s fairly unusual and complex Gamepad motion controls. He also revealed to Nintendo Life that the team who was in charge of Mario Kart 8’s fairly unpopular Battle Mode (which didn’t feature dedicated courses, but rather took place on the regular race tracks) is in charge of Star Fox Zero’s multiplayer. According to Robertson’s sources, the whole project feels “disjointed”. Because of these issues, another release date delay is supposedly possible.
As always, take rumors like this with a grain of salt, even though we’re dealing with a reputable source here. Either way, we should hopefully hear official news about the game soon. Right now, it’s still scheduled to be released in April – if Nintendo decides to stick to that release date, they will likely start promoting the game soon. If a delay does indeed happen, it would also be in Nintendo’s best interest to announce it as early as possible. We will keep you posted.

Mother 3 localization speculation picks up steam

Update: Emily is backing away from the speculation, stating: “Media jumping the gun over a tweet. All I was said was: Mother 3’s 10th anniversary is coming, it would be cool if Nintendo acknowledged it.” On the other hand, other folks are coming forward and claiming it could be happening.
What I had heard about Mother 3 ( rumour) was that it was in the final stages of localisation at Nintendo of Europe a little while back.

Mother 3 is a title that Nintendo gamers have wanted localized for a very, very long time. Perhaps 2016 will finally be the year when we see it debut in the west.
Emily Rogers, who is known for sharing Nintendo rumors and occasional insight into the company, made some tweets recently that has fans talking. The first one is shown above. Some of Emily’s followers also picked up on this now-deleted tweet:
“One last thing before I vanish: Don’t be surprised if Nintendo celebrates a game’s 10th anniversary this year…Just some food for thought.”
We did see EarthBound Beginnings come to the Wii U eShop last year – a move that surprised everyone. It’s possible that Nintendo could opt for a similar move with Mother 3.
Rumor: Great Detective Pikachu could have more episodes

Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Combination debuted on the Japanese 3DS eShop today. Although it’s is out, The Pokemon Company may have more in store for the title. More information is after the break due to minor spoilers relating to the very end of the game.
