Masayuki Uemura, a lead designer of the Nintendo Entertainment System, held a presentation at New York University’s Game Center last night. Uemura shared a couple of interesting insights that I wanted to relay here.
First, the front-loading slot was implemented since VHS systems were popular in the mid-190s. The team wanted to make the NES to take on a somewhat similar appearance. Uemura also commented on why the Zapper was bundled in: because Americans loved guns, apparently!

As was promised last night, Splatoon has been updated with another new weapon. Players can now begin using the Rapid Blaster Pro.
A sizable update will be coming to Splatoon next week, which makes a slew of adjustments to the game. This will be going live on Tuesday evening in North America and early Wednesday morning in Europe.

Nostatic Software is bringing over another one of its mobile releases to the Wii U eShop next week. In North America, the action-adventure game Ascent of Kings will be available on October 22. Pricing is set at $1.99.
Here’s a brief overview:
The death of a King. An epic challenge to choose a new ruler. Will the youngest of four brothers turn out to be the strongest? Will a boy become King? The answer is up to you.
- Classic adventure-platformer gameplay.
- Explore and encounter strange creatures – some harmless, some not.

Initially, Wales Interactive intended to have Soul Axiom completed in time for December. Due to a setback during development, however, it’s now planned for Q1 2016.
Soul Axiom will also be receiving an engine upgrade. Rather than being built with Unity 4, it will now run on Unity 5.
