Capcom is back with another localization blog about Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Today’s write-up includes some discussion pertaining to the Insect Glaive, one of the weapons in the game.
In Japanese, the Insect Glaive is known as Souchuukon (???), which roughly translates into “Control Insect Cane”. The weapon was tentatively named Neopteron Handler in English, but the team was later given permission to change it.
Capcom ended up considering the following names before settling on Insect Glaive.
– Swarmstaff: This was the overall favorite of the localization staff, and we thought it was a short but effective name to describe the weapon.
– Hunting Bug: For this we ditched the actual weapon part and opted to focus on the bug that accompanies the hunter.
– Leechstaff: Focuses on what the bug does for the hunter while keeping the weapon name intact.
– Pherocaster: This may be a strange one, but we were trying to describe how the hunter uses pheromones to command the bug during a quest.
– Augmentor Staff: Again, this was to focus on what the bug does for the hunter rather than what the hunter does with the bug.
Capcom ended up submitting a few more names like Bug Bo and Insect Staff after director Kaname Fujioka said he “wanted something simpler and more in line with the other weapon names.” Insect Glaive was ultimately picked “due to the properties of the weapon – it’s capable of severing tails and doesn’t do blunt damage – and because there are more weapons that look like glaives than there are staffs.”

Bandai Namco is developing a game based on the Kaitou Joker series for 3DS. It’s scheduled for release in Japan sometime this year.
Kaitou Joker: Time Crossing Phantom Thief and the Lost Gem (take that in for a second) features playing cards and the image gun like Joker in the anime to take on enemies. Players will steal treasure by using acrobatic action and solving puzzles. It’s also possible to collect hidden treasure in levels.
This new Kaitou Joker game will be at the World Hobby Fair. Those who stop by Bandai Namco’s booth can obtain two stickers: one for playing the game, and another for solving a riddle.
We’ve already seen the Majora’s Mask New 3DS XL selling out incredibly quickly at retailers in North America. Demand for the system is high in Australia and New Zealand, too. That means it’s no longer available for pre-order in these two territories, though Nintendo says more stock is coming in March. Be sure to keep track of what’s happening at retailers as there will only be a “limited quantity” of units.
Nintendo wrote on Twitter a few minutes ago:
Due to overwhelming demand, New Nintendo 3DS XL Majora’s Mask Edition is currently unavailable for pre-order in AU/NZ, however…(1/2)

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate appears to sport a couple of visual improvements on the New 3DS. Along with improved textures, the game also features better shadows.
Aside from graphical touches, there are a couple of other things that are improved on New 3DS. It loads faster on the system, and overall performance is smoother.
Today’s Terra Formars: Fierce Battle on the Crimson Planet update introduces us to five new characters. Siliconera translated their bios, which can be found below.
Akari Hizamaru:
Michelle K. Davis:
Michelle is the miracle child, who was born with the powers of the Paraponera, which gives her extraordinary strength and durability. She also has the powers of a Blast Ant to blow up the Terraformars.
Shokichi Komachi:
Shokichi gets his powers from that of the Japanese giant hornet. He fights using his twin stingers with poison in both hands, and he also goes berserk, just like the Japanese hornets that are known for its aggression.
Marcos Eringrad Garcia:
Marcos has the powers of a Huntsman Spider, which gives him power, ferocity, and speed. While he may have it all going for him, his endurance is his weakness, which leaves him vulnerable at times.
Keiji Onizuka:
The Peacock Mantis Shrimp is where Keiji gets his powers from. Similar to Michelle, his strength and durability are his best attributes. He can also regenerate his limbs, so losing an arm or leg against the Terraformars shouldn’t be that big of a deal to him.
