Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS feature stages from previous games in the franchise. There are some stages from Brawl, Melee, and even the original release.

In his latest “Smash Bros. Diaries” entry included in this month’s issue of Game Informer, director Masahiro Sakurai addressed a question about how the team decided on which stages to bring back.

There are several factors that came in to play. Sakurai mentioned “the popularity of the stage, whether or not it’s a match for the 3DS screen, and whether or not two stages from the same setting are getting ported” were all considered.

Below are Sakurai’s full comments:

BeautiFun Games announced earlier this month that Nihilumbra is coming to the PlayStation Vita on January 27. But what about the Wii U version?

We asked BeautiFun about Nihilumbra’s status on Wii U, and were told that the plan is to release it this winter. While it’s still on track, the game will arrive slightly later due to an audio engine bug that needs fixing. BeautiFun is working hard with Nintendo and Unity to address the issue.

This week, Scott dives into our Game of the Month with a video about each character in the original WarioWare. Fascinatingly, he tries to pin down the style of each one and their microgames, which lead me to learn that Dr. Crygor’s are definitely my favorite. Nothing can beat that photorealism…

Here’s a question though: Which style of minigame suits you best, and which character’s games do you like the most? Did you ever really notice a difference in style between all the characters?

James Montagna, a designer and director over at WayForward, has teased a new game for Wii U. This appears to be an independent project as opposed to a new game coming directly from the studio.

Montagna wrote on Twitter today:

Montagna has been at WayForward for several years. His past projects include Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?!, A Boy and His Blob, and plenty more.

Bowser is one of the first amiibo of wave three to be appearing in stores, and defects are already being spotted. This one is particularly amusing! Bowser is basically holding his own head in his hands… if you’ve played the original Luigi’s Mansion, this may look familiar!
