Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse graphics comparison

A new graphics comparison video has come online for the Switch and Wii versions of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse.

Koei Tecmo announced during the latest Nintendo Direct that the survival horror title is making a comeback following its initial release in 2008. Whereas the Wii original was only sold in Japan, the new Switch edition is receiving a worldwide launch for the first time.

Pilotwings 64 is appearing on Switch in less than a week, and GameXplain has now readied a comparison video to show how the graphics compare to the N64 original.

The biggest takeaway here is that on Switch, the game runs at a mostly smooth 60 frames per second. That’s a big step up from the initial release, which largely ran at 30 FPS (some dips, only menus were 60 FPS). Outside of that, the whole package is in proper HD like other N64 titles on Switch Online. The only slight downside is that the in-game timer looks a bit more wonky due to the increased frame rate.

Nier Automata Switch PS4 graphics comparison

A new video for the Switch and PS4 versions of NieR: Automata have emerged, covering the graphics and frame rate.

By all accounts, developer Virtuos has done an admirable job bringing the action adventure game to Switch. We already know that the title targets 30 frames per second on Nintendo’s console rather than 60 – and that’s further backed up here. But this may actually be a good thing as the PS4 version, while targeting 60, can fluctuate – and that doesn’t always lead to the best experience. Elsewhere we see that the game apparently goes for a resolution of 1080p on Switch when docked, but with temporal reconstruction.

Pac-Man World Re-Pac graphics comparison trailer

Original (8/5): Bandai Namco has created an official graphics comparison trailer for Pac-Man World Re-Pac.

The original game launched for the PlayStation in 1999, and needless to say that technology has evolved since then. Bandai Namco has gone back to the drawing board and reworked the visuals in many different ways, including the character models, environments, and textures.

Wave Race 64 has just released for Nintendo Switch Online, and we can now take a look at how this version of the game compares visually to past iterations. In this Gamexplain video, the Switch version is first compared to the N64 original, before then being compared to the more modern Wii U version.

As is expected, the Switch version is certainly an improvement over the more jagged N64 original, and since Wii U ports of N64 games tended to make things a little darker, the Switch brightens it up in comparison to be truer to its initial release.

Here is some more information about Wave Race 64:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass Wave 2 graphics comparison

Nintendo is bringing back another set of tracks to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of the Booster Course Pass Wave 2 DLC, and GameXplain has now put together a graphics comparison video.

For those that need a refresher, the Turnip Cup has Tour New York Minute, SNES Mario Circuit 3, N64 Kalimari Desert, and DS Waluigi Pinball. The Propeller Cup features Tour Sydney Sprint, GBA Snow Land, Wii Mushroom Gorge as returning tracks. Sky-High Sundae is actually making its first debut every in the Propeller Cup, though it will appear in Mario Kart Tour later.

pac-man world re-pac comparison

Thanks to GameXplain, we have a new graphics comparison video for Pac-Man World Re-Pac. The just-announced remake and the original PlayStation release have gone head to head.

Bandai Namco just announced Pac-Man World Re-Pac earlier today. Other then improved graphics, it will also offer smoother gameplay and a wider view of the action. More information can be found below.

AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative comparison

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative has officially launched on Switch, though it’s also out elsewhere as well – and we’ve readied a new graphical comparison video. PC is the other platform we’ve decided to use here.

Thankfully, as you’ll see in the video, Spike Chunsoft seems to have done an admirable job with the Switch version. All of the assets are here without much in the way of changes. You’ll get a higher resolution and frame rate on PC, but those are the main differences.

sonic origins trailer graphics music comparison

A few more videos have come in for Sonic Origins – specifically a trailer focusing on Sonic the Hedgehog 1 plus comparisons involving graphics and music.

SEGA previously put up a video showing off the mode of Sonic Origins last week. For today’s trailer, Sonic 1 is highlighted, including what’s new this time around.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion comparison

A new video has come in for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion that serves as a graphics comparison. With it, we’re able to see just how much this version of the title compares to the original.

The video goes to show just how much effort Square Enix is putting into Reunion. The company did say that everything is now in HD – as you’d expect – and the models have been upgraded. It seems to go even beyond that, though.
