Pokemon GO

Niantic is getting the ball rolling on a new Pokemon GO update. The app is being updated to version 1.15.0 on iOS, and version 0.45.0 on Android.

The new Pokemon GO update encompasses three main areas. First, as we heard about recently, daily bonuses are coming to Pokemon GO. Also, when defeating a Gym Leader, a brief period will be in place in which only you can place a Pokemon in the open Gym. Finally, the amount of Prestige a rival Gym loses when you defeat a regular Gym member has increased while the amount of Prestige gained by training at a friendly Gym has been lowered.

In its latest issue, GamesMaster published an interview with two of Game Freak’s developers working on Pokemon Sun/Moon. Director Shigeru Ohmori and Junichi Masuda were both interviewed. Ohmori’s comments mainly reiterated what we heard in previous interviews, but many of Masuda’s comments were very interesting.

The Masuda interview was more about Pokemon in general. He talked about fan feedback, the process of making new creatures, plus voice acting and Pokemon cries. If that wasn’t enough, Masuda also dished on a couple of new online features being included in Sun/Moon.

Head past the break for a rundown of some of Masuda’s top comments.

Over the past couple of weeks, Nintendo has been publishing new interviews about some of its classic games in celebration of the NES Classic Edition. A couple of these have started to receive official English translations, but one is still untouched: Super Mario Bros. 3. Since it was incredibly fascinating and arguably the most interesting interview out of the bunch thus far, we went ahead and produced our own translation.

Directors Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka participated in the interview, along with composer Koji Kondo. During the conversation, they opened up about how the game was originally planned with an overhead perspective, spoke about the different power-ups including Tanooki Suit’s origins, and touched on the music. Miyamoto also cleared up where the idea for Small Mario came from in the first Super Mario Bros.

Iizuka was located in the United States as Sonic Heroes was being created. Meanwhile, the rest of the team was based in Japan. Mismanagement was also a major issue.

GamesMaster went hands-on with Pokemon Sun/Moon in its latest issue, and wrote up an article about what to expect from the opening gameplay in the two titles. The information covers the beginning up through a portion of your arrival in Hau’oli.

There’s really nothing major here in terms of the story. Just to be on the safe side with spoilers though, we’ve posted the details roundup after the break.

Inti Creates has just announced Blaster Master Zero, a new entry in the Blaster Master franchise coming to the 3DS eShop in Spring 2017. The news was shared during the company’s Anniversary Fan Festa event in Japan.

According to a blog post, the rights for the original Blaster Master on NES were obtained from Sunsoft. After this, the team began working on the latest title in the franchise.

Here’s what Inti Creates is saying about Blaster Master Zero thus far:

“Using the original Blaster Master game as a base, we are setting out to create a fully 8-bit experience in a way that both hearkens back to the golden age of the NES and uses the current generation hardware to optimize and power up the game for the players of today. This of course includes new areas and bosses, and new gameplay elements such as extra sub-weapons, improved gameplay when battling outside of your SOPHIA 3rd tank, a more robust scenario, refined and expanded exploration mechanics, and more.”
