The image above is said to have been posted on Nintendo’s Facebook page earlier today. It was intended to act as a recap for the past week, but it appears that a new stage was included in the roundup.

We’re presented with a shot of Kirby and Pikachu in a mine cart. There’s talk that the stage could be based on either Donkey Kong or the Kirby All-Star’s The Great Cave Offensive mini-game.

The screenshot definitely looks legitimate! We’ll mark this as a rumor just to be safe. For all we know, an official “reveal” could happen this week.

Last week’s debut of Discussing Everything went much better than I initially expected. There were plenty of discussions about a wide array of topics, and we ended up continuing the talk for an extra hour!

I do want to maintain the momentum we gained last week by hosting another Discussing Everything on Sunday. However, I unfortunately have something personal to attend to… meaning this week’s event will be on the short side. We’ll again be kicking things off at 4 PM ET / 1 PM PT, but due to the short nature of the talk, it will be entirely dedicated to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. I imagine you guys will have plenty to say in any case given that the game is launching on Friday!

So join us on Sunday to chat a bit about the new Smash Bros. Hope to see some of you then!

Underground is not your typical title. Four years ago, Grendel Games – in cooperation with the University Medical Center Groningen and LIMIS Foundation – set out to create an experience for Wii that can be used to help surgeons in training. Development is still ongoing, but Underground has almost come to fruition – and as a Wii U release.

“It is true that the title was initially planned for Wii, but as it seemed the whole Wii market was starting to fade out, so we switched to Wii U,” producer Stavros Tsikinas told Nintendo Everything. “For serious purposes (surgeon training), that wouldn’t make a significant difference, because either way the game would be used. On the other hand, we wanted to get into the Wii U market for the commercial reasons. Those four years were very intensive, difficult, tiring, but very rewarding as well.”

It’s been a little while since we last featured a game from an independent developer on the top of Nintendo Everything through the “Weekly Screenshot” feature, but after Shin’en wrapped up their tenure with us showcasing exclusive Art of Balance images, we decided to take our time looking for a developer that had a game with something worth sharing with your eyes. Our choice this time? Mobot Studios’ Paper Monster Recut, which falls under the categories of “Wii U eShop game” and “charming platformer”. You can find plenty of info about the game around the site through the sidebar to the right.

Our liaison at Mobot Studios is Jon Williams, and he’s going to give us a bit of context on the intriguing screenshot above:

“Here’s our first screenshot. It’s from a new night time level in the first world of the game. We really like the look we were able to achieve with the angle of light from the moon reflecting off the top of objects, the glow from the new bloom lighting, and the real time shadows that are all new in Paper Monsters Recut.”

In an interview with Siliconera, Shantae director Matt Bozon touched on the different prototypes that the studio experimented with in the past but never saw the day of light. Among the projects include “a polygonal Shantae that could be run around in three distinct gameplay ‘gyms’”.

Bozon’s full comments:

“We had a polygonal Shantae that could be run around in three distinct gameplay ‘gyms’. One was a spline-scroller (like Namco’s Klonoa), one was a free-range 3D like Mario 64, and the last was an isometric 3D platformer. We’ve done a lot of exploration in this area… Shantae was a sprite/3D hybrid for PlayStation and PC, and was free-roaming on the PlayStation 2. She even rode a river raft on the GameCube. It’s possible that we’ll see a polygonal Shantae down the line, but only if it serves the style of gameplay we want to create at the time.”

Bozon also spoke with Siliconera about WayForward’s upcoming Shantae games. Speaking about the differences between Pirate’s Curse and Half-Genie Hero, he said:

“The games are fairly different. The teams have no real crossover besides me and Jake (Virt) Kaufman. Half-Genie Hero is more about dancing, over-the-top spectacle, arcade action, and some light quest elements to keep it true to the series (and it’s still in development, so anything can happen!). It’s like a Shantae TV show come to life!”

“Pirate’s Curse has a deeper narrative and is more rooted in 16-bit stylings, even though it has higher resolution paintings and occasional voice over. Pirate’s Curse expands the original gameplay and takes into new territory. Half-Genie Hero goes back to belly dancing and magic, but adds a ton of variety with more playable characters and HD visual design.”

Following yesterday’s leak from the USK, XSEED has now come forward with an official confirmation regarding Rune Factory 4’s release plans in Europe.

Executive VP Ken Berry told Siliconera:

“The situation is that we know the Rune Factory 4 fans in Europe have suffered enough with one cancellation already, so we didn’t want to announce anything until the game passed [Nintendo of Europe] certification and we were sure its digital-only eShop release was imminent since we are using a different programming house to try to pick up where the original dev team left off.”

“Though I can’t disclose which development house is handling the PAL localization programming duties for us, I can say that it’s been in the works for months already and we hope to start the master submission process with NOE within the next couple weeks.”

It was previously said that Rune Factory 4 wouldn’t be released in Europe due to technical difficulties. All of the problems likely came down to the fact that Neverland, the game’s original developer, shut down late last year.
