The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

System: Switch
Release date: July 16, 2021
Developer: Nintendo / Tantalus
Publisher: Nintendo

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the culmination of the 3D Zelda games that came before it. It’s hard to imagine the winning formula introduced in Ocarina of Time being refined further than this: puzzle-solving strikes a brilliant balance between challenging and intuitive, the way dungeons evolve is impressively organic, and exploration provides a sense of adventure without feeling as if Link has to wander aimlessly. By the same token, reaching this peak meant it was time for Nintendo to reconsider where to take the series next, which eventually led to The Legend of the Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That makes coming back to Skyward Sword now an interesting prospect and, thanks to a combination of the original game’s strengths and the quality of Skyward Sword HD’s enhancements, a supremely enjoyable one.

It’s always great when we’re able to expand the Nintendo Everything team, but we haven’t quite had the opportunity to do so as of late. It’s been about a half a year since we put out a call for new reviewers. If you count other positions, it’s been much longer than that. But now that E3 and a few other things have settled down, we’re hoping to expand in a few different areas.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

Back in 2019, BlitWorks partnered with Larian Studios on the Switch version of Divinity: Original Sin 2. Co-founder Tony Cabello has gone on record and said that the port “was one of the most difficult projects we’ve ever done”. BlitWorks would later partner with Larian again, as the company’s development team would form the recently-announced Larian Barcelona.

Larian’s main focus at the moment is Baldur’s Gate 3, though it’s unclear if it will end up on Switch. One factor that could influence the situation would be if Nintendo introduced more powerful hardware.

.hack//G.U Last Recode

.hack//G.U. Last Recode may very well be bound for Switch. The collection was just rated for Nintendo’s system by the ESRB today, hinting at an upcoming announcement.

The Switch version of Ni no Kuni II leaked in a similar manner. After it was rated by the ESRB at the end of April, Bandai Namco made an announcement the following month.

Here’s some information about .hack//G.U. Last Recode as well as a trailer:

Nintendo Switch OLED

Nintendo is making a pretty big change with its upcoming Switch model. Rather than using another LCD screen, the company has instead decided to go the OLED route.

OLED allows for “vivid colors and crisp contrast,” according to Nintendo. But it also comes with a slight risk. Burn-in can happen with OLED screens, which CNET describes as a portion of an image that “persists as a ghostly background no matter what else appears onscreen.” Fortunately, burn-in is relatively uncommon.

Nintendo itself has also commented on potential concerns when it comes to burn-in with the new Switch OLED model. The company had this to say:

No More Heroes 3

The No More Heroes franchise was dormant for about a decade following the release of the second entry on Wii. But we then saw Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes in 2019, Switch ports of the previous titles last year, and we’re about to get No More Heroes 3. You can definitely say that the series’ future is looking bright.

No More Heroes has stayed within the gaming space, but creator Suda51 is interested in expanding the IP into areas. Speaking with IGN, he talked about how he hopes there’ll be a movie or TV show based on the series someday. Also revealed is that one past proposal “came really close” to happening, with a decision even having been made egarding “the actor to play the main character, but it never made it into production.”

Suda51’s full words:

The Wii Shop Channel was Nintendo’s first foray into digital marketplaces. Initially, it served as the introduction to offering classic titles with the Virtual Console games. WiiWare was later added for brand new experiences.

Now thanks to the latest round of Nintendo leaks, we’re able to see an early version of the Wii Shop Channel. Twitter user lombTV passed along a few photos of the design, which you can see below. This was dated August 18, 2006.
