Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse also heading to Wii U, game launching this summer

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is no longer just a 3DS title. WayForward has also revealed that the game will be released on 3DS.
On Wii U, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse features HD artwork mixed with pixel-based sprites as well as off-TV play. Both versions incorporate touch-based inventory management system and a real-time map.
As for what’s new in Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, WayForward’s Matt Bozon told Nintendo Life:
The biggest shift is the Pirate Weapons. This time out Shantae can’t use her dance magic, so she’s forced to learn new tricks in order to vanquish foes and overcome puzzles. The pirate theme isn’t just for story; each item can be used offensively and defensively. You can destroy obstacles with your Scimitar, but it’s also a weapon. Same goes for the Flintlock Pistol – it can hit switches but also blasts monsters at long range. It’s a pretty big departure from the creature transformations seen in the other games in the series. The quest flow is quite different too, with Shantae and Risky sailing together from one land to the next. There is a lot of freedom to explore in Pirate’s Curse. We also have a MAP in the game! It works like the maps in Super Metroid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which was a popular request by fans. Last, the scope is a huge change from Risky’s Revenge. Pirate’s Curse is the size and scope of a traditional retail game. After working on it non-stop for a full two years, we didn’t want to skimp on the size. It’s more than twice the size of the previous game!
Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse now has a final launch window – Summer 2014.

Nintendo Digital Event estimated to be a half hour long
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 43 Comments
Just how long will Nintendo’s Digital Event on Tuesday be? Japanese website NicoNico provides an estimate of sorts, listing a half hour time slot.
As we tend to say in these sorts of situations, that’s not an official confirmation. I’d also guess that it’ll run slightly over a half hour if NicoNico is accurate. I could see it being something like 35 minutes long. We’ll see.

Mario Kart 8 sold through 81% of initial shipment in Japan
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 3 Comments
Mario Kart 8 is off to a solid start in Japan. Nintendo’s racer sold 326,000 copies in its first week, with a 80.9 percent sell-through rate. While this is a bit less than Mario Kart 7 (420,000 units), sales tracker Media Create mentions that this could be due to the timing of release and the number of hardware units sold prior.
Mario Kart 8 experienced the best opening week of any Wii U game in Japan thus far by a significant margin. It surpassed New Super Mario Bros. U, which sold 164,000 units in its first week.
With Mario Kart 8’s launch, the Wii U sold about 20,000 units. That’s quite a bit more than the 9,000 units it sold the week prior, though it’s not the massive boost that some may have hoped for. Still, Mario Kart 8’s launch week was the first time Wii U was in the top spot since the console released with major titles. Media Create mentions that although Nintendo tends to release good titles throughout the year, new users might not be drawn to the Wii U until after summer vacation.
