Capcom updated the official Monster Hunter 4 website once more with Arena Challenge content. The page confirms that the feature will be back, but with some additions and changes.

You can find screenshots of the Arena Challenges and details below.

– Arena Challenge returns
– This has players going up against monsters using pre-set gear and items
– Has two new stages and features
– Test your hunting skills to see if you have what it takes to face the fearsome monsters in the arena
– Start a challenge by speaking with an NPC in the Arena counter
– Need to choose a set of gear to your liking
– Players’ times are recorded after beating a challenge
– Top-3 best times ranked for the quest
– Additionally, it will also indicate the ranking of other players whom you’ve shared Guild Cards with
– Can’t carry in your own equipment or items
– Also can’t carry material out of the arena
– Food effects won’t affect you in here
– After entering a challenge, players start out at the base camp
– Prep yourself here before going in
– When in the arena, you’ll have access to the fence, which is activated by a button
– Fence is useful while fighting a set of two monsters or more, by allowing you to split them apart and take care of them one at a time
– Need to time the fence button right
– If you don’t, you’ll end up having to fight two monsters with much less space
– Monster Hunter 4 has various types of arenas
– One area has two elevation levels, but no fences
– Stages usually vary based on the type of monster you’re up against

Platinum Games and Nintendo teamed up for the first time while creating The Wonderful 101. Because the two companies didn’t have much contact in the past, both maintained certain assumptions about the other.

On Platinum’s side, director Hideki Kamiya thought Nintendo “would be very business-like” and was a bit surprised as to “how human” the company was. Meanwhile, according to Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami, the Big N assumed Kamiya would be “scary”.

A discussion in the latest Iwata Asks goes into further detail about Nintendo and Platinum’s initial working relationship:
