Nintendo shows off the Tokotoko Mario toy from Super Nintendo World, comes in two versions

When Super Nintendo World opens in Japan, visitors will be able to stop by the 1-Up Factory. The area will house all sorts of merchandise, including some exclusive items. One of these products is the Tokotoko Mario toy.
We heard about this a bit during the Super Nintendo World Direct, but we now have a few more details and photos. The toy will be sold in two versions – with the Warp Pipe or Red Shell. You can pose Mario with the Warp Pipe bundle while the Red Shell version comes with a Super Nintendo World flag.

It’s been a busy past few days for presentations with the Indie World Showcase and Sephiroth presentation for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Nintendo is now ending the week with a Nintendo Direct dedicated to Super Nintendo World. The broadcast begins at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 PM in the UK / 12 PM in Europe. It should last about 15 minutes and won’t cover game content.

Super Mario RPG character designer Kazuyuki Kurashima shows original concept art for Geno

Geno is joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, though perhaps not in the way fans had hoped. Rather than a fighter, he’s being added to the game as a Mii Fighter costume. It follows the trend set in the previous Smash Bros. entry.
Having Geno represented is still notable, and Super Mario RPG character designer Kazuyuki Kurashima is celebrating the news with concept art originally created for the title so many years ago. You can find the full set below.

Super Nintendo World Direct announced for December 18

A Super Nintendo World Direct will be held on December 18, Nintendo has announced. The presentation will cover “just some of Universal Studios Japan’s new area, Super Nintendo World” during the 15-minute broadcast. It will not cover game content.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser on the impact of COVID-19

Just about everyone was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic in one way or another this year. Nintendo was not spared, as the company was affected in various ways and had plans impacted. We saw Switch shipments slow, its repair centers temporarily close, and more.
Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser further discussed the situation in an interview with Polygon. When asked how the coronavirus impacted Nintendo, Bowser said:

Tales of fans vote on most-played entries, most memorable theme songs, and best battle systems

The Tales of series is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Bandai Namco recently had fans vote on a few categories. They were able to share their most-played titles in the franchise, favorite theme songs, and best battle systems. The results of these rankings were shared during a 25th-anniversary live stream yesterday.

Pokemon getting new wave of Funko Pops – Mew, Raichu, Ponyta, silver Pikachu

The latest wave of Pokemon Funko Pop figures have been revealed. Mew, Raichu, Ponyta, and silver Pikachu are currently in the pipeline. Availability will offer by retailer, but some listings have pointed to a February / March 2021 release.

Modified game cartridge makes ray tracing possible on the SNES

Ray tracing, which allows for more realistic lighting, only really started to find prominence over the past few years. When you hear the technical term, you tend to think of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and high-end PCs. But one fan has now made ray tracing possible on the SNES with a modified cartridge.
Ben Carter of Shironeko Labs says he “wanted to try and do was something akin to the Super FX chip used in titles such as Star Fox”. The SuperRT demo works “where the SNES runs the game logic and hands off a scene description to a chip in the cartridge to generate the visuals.”
