Not exactly breaking news from the Squid Research Lab! The developers of the upcoming Wii U title, Splatoon, are now sharing official English updates through the game’s Tumblr page. Previously this was only being shared on a Japanese Twitter account so it’s nice to have an official English resource, even if it’s making me feel redundant. You can view the most recent update, including the picture above, there. All of the previous information we’ve posted is also on the Tumblr, which confirms that the one time I had a crack at translating their Twitter post it ended up being accurate. What a fluke!

Famitsu have revealed a few new details on the upcoming crossover dungeon crawler, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, including the game’s boxart. The game will feature a new character class, the Wanderer (Fuurai), which looks an awful lot like a certain veteran Mystery Dungeon explorer. A pair of new NPC characters were also revealed; One of them handles the usual “Adventurer’s Guild” for creating characters and arranging parties while the other dapper fellow offers missions. Famitsu also teased the massive D.O.E. enemies that will appear during dungeon dives, which will presumably act like Etrian Odyssey’s traditional F.O.E. foes. We’ve included a bunch of the new art and screenshots in a gallery over the break.

Level-5 has picked up two new Youkai Watch-related trademarks in the United States. “Jibanyan” and “Whisper” – important characters from Level-5’s series – had filings on December 9.

Back in January, Level-5 trademarked “Yo-kai Watch” in the states.

A pair of file sizes have come in for new RCMADIAX titles. Blok Drop X Twisted Fusion is an 81 MB download while Toss N Go clocks in at 66 MB. Both games are due out on the North American Wii U eShop this Thursday.

Dengeki offers further insight into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’s first week sales in Japan. According to the site, the game sold through roughly 60 percent of its initial shipment. Dengeki’s own numbers suggest that Derby Stallion Gold – another title that just made its debut in Japan – sold through 50 percent of its initial shipment.

Renegade Kid briefly worked on “a bizarre overhead RPG-esk dungeon thing” – seemingly for the 3DS – before ultimately shelving the project, studio co-founder Jools Watsham has revealed.

Watsham shared the news in a postmortem blog on Gamasutra. He explained that the company needed to launch some sort of new title for 2014 in order to make revenue and carry on into 2015.

According to Watsham, roughly three weeks were spent on the RPG. However, while the game “was shaping up pretty good”, he explained that “in the end I just wasn’t feeling it at the time.”

Keep in mind that the project may not necessarily be dead. Watsham wouldn’t rule out the possibility of returning to the game in the future, as he said on Twitter:
