Rumors

A couple of days ago, apparent news leaked out about Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX. Data for the game was said to be found sitting on the 3DS eShop through some nontraditional means.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX is starting to look even more likely, as SciresM – who claimed to have found the data initially – now says he’s located the game’s icon as well. Here’s a rough look:

At this point, I’d be pretty surprised if Nintendo didn’t end up announcing this game. News at E3 would be expected.

Amazon may have more Switch stock in the near future. In a customer support chat exchange sent in by reader RobinWithN, the representative noted that new stock will be showing up “from the first week of May.” Regular consumers and Prime members will apprently be able to place orders. Of course, we do have to take this with a grain of salt as it doesn’t come from an official Amazon announcement, so keep that in mind.

Various retailers have been gradually restocking Switch over the past few weeks. However, Amazon hasn’t really had any units available in about a month. Based on today’s information, hopefully that will be changing soon.

Thanks to RobinWithN for the tip.

If a new report from Eurogamer is to be believed, Nintendo will be following up on the NES Classic Edition / NES Mini with a new product. This year, the site claims that the SNES Mini will be launching.

Eurogamer’s article doesn’t have much in the way of details. However, the site says the hardware is “a major reason why last year’s NES mini did not see a reprieve from discontinuation”.

If Eurogamer is to be believed, the SNES Mini will be ready by Christmas.

Much has been made of Rime’s price on Switch. Unfortunately, you’ll have to pay $10 / £10 extra for the game on Nintendo’s console in comparison to other versions of the game.

So what’s going on here? Well, Eurogamer reports that it comes down to how “the cost of manufacturing a Nintendo Switch game is higher than the cost of making a PS4, PC or Xbox One game, because the cartridges the Switch uses cost more to make than Blu-ray discs.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a must-have game on Switch. If there’s one thing to criticize though, it’d be the game’s technical performance. Specifically, Breath of the Wild sometimes experiences frame rate drops. Some players have even experienced the screen freezing for a second or two.

Zelda isn’t actually the only game with frame rate issues. FAST RMX and I Am Setsuna both have problems with resolution drops and frame rate fluctuations respectively. However, an anonymous third-party developer has told Nintendo Life that the situation is resulting from a known issue with Switch’s Wi-Fi connection which places additional load on the processor.

One of the site’s readers, JunkRabbit, also provides the following explanation:

The Wall Street Journal reports that Amperex, otherwise known as ATL, is providing the battery for Switch. That’s the same company behind the replacement batteries that powered the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Switch has a non-removable battery, though Nintendo will replace it for a fee. Battery length is estimated to be 2.5 to 6.5 hours.

Switch is about two and a half weeks away. To prepare for launch, retailers are starting to get their plans together. Best Buy is one such store in the U.S. readying for Switch’s release.

Based on information posted to the Switch section of Reddit which was verified by the moderation team, 682 Best Buy locations will have a midnight launch. Tickets will be handed out before the clock strikes 12, though store managers will decide on the specific timeline.

For those who didn’t pre-order, tickets will be printed for systems that were not reserved. Consumers will be given a ticket at least one hour before the store opening for locations not doing the midnight launch. As for quantities, we don’t have any numbers unfortunately, but systems are expected to be available.

As one final note, all accessories are street dated in Best Buy’s system. You won’t be able to purchase any of them until March 3.

Update: Added in details about Nintendo’s expanded online network and library called Network Extension (NEX).

Original: Earlier today, a new thread popped up in the Switch section of Reddit with very interesting information and images about Nintendo’s new hardware. Someone seemingly managed to get a hold of several files, in-development images, and new shots of Switch (when it was known as NX) revealing additional information about the system, including specs. While some of the content might be outdated, there’s no question that a good deal here is still relevant and applies to Switch’s retail version.

There are three files online at the moment. We have an NX overview, system features guide, and SDev Kit quick start document.

Reddit user dreamsomebody compiled the following information based on what’s surfaced:

Nintendo Network

A list is making the rounds of a few hundred Nintendo Network IDs that have supposedly been hacked. In total, roughly 440 users seem to be affected.

You can see if your name is listed in the document here. Obviously, if your Nintendo Network ID is there, you should change your password immediately.

Update: This may unfortunately just be an error on Nintendo’s website. As one example, the Ultra Street Fighter II page has “Pokemon Moon with Lunala Figure for Nintendo Switch”, which linked to a 3DS pic.

Original: Nintendo is holding a Fire Emblem based Nintendo Direct this week, but one bit of news from it might have dropped early. NeoGAF user Mr. Pointy found evidence that a version of Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation may be making its way to the Switch. Searching through the source code for the Fire Emblem Warriors page from Nintendo’s website reveals a hidden image/link for “Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation for nintendo switch”. There is no listing for either Birthright or Conquest, but that doesn’t rule them out. Hopefully this shows up in this week’s Direct!
