Rumors

Nintendo stock in North America as of late has become a bit ridiculous as of late. Finding amiibo, New 3DS XL systems, and other products in stores has been far from easy.

Whatever’s going on could partially be attributed to the port strike happening on the west coast, which has been taking place for several months. 70 percent of goods coming from Asia have been affected, Reuters says. Nintendo hardware and amiibo come from China, and ships tend to head to the west coast since it’s the shortest route. That happens to be where the strike is happening.

Nintendo hasn’t commented on whether the port strike has impacted them. However, Kotaku writes that it has heard from people at the company that supply of amiibo and New 3DS systems have been affected.

Since the early days of Anima: Gate of Memories’ existence, we’ve heard that the game would be released on Wii U. That’s why it was particularly strange that speculation started surfacing today that this might no longer be the case.

The rumors seem to have arisen from a couple of tweets published by BadLand Games, a Spanish distributor. BadLand essentially stated that there are no plans for a Wii U version at the moment. I’m not sure why this was said, but I can confirm that Anima: Gate of Memories is still on for Wii U. Creator Carlos García confirmed to us that the team is still planning a Wii U version.

Are Nintendo and Bandai Namco working on another DLC character for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS? That’s what the latest rumor suggests.

Rumors about Rayman appearing in Smash Bros. first appeared on 4chan, as several alleged images surfaced earlier today. That has now been followed up with a brief video – though Rayman still hasn’t been shown in battle.

I’ve been trying to take a “wait and see” approach with this round of speculation. Since the video above has surfaced, it does seem more likely that the rumor holds true. But again: nothing is confirmed. And as I always tend to say, maintain some skepticism unless Nintendo makes an announcement.

3D Steets of Rage 2 doesn’t seem exist yet. That’s why it’s peculiar how the game has been rated over in Australia. Could 3D Steets of Rage 2 be happening at some point?

It would appear that there has been a recent sighting of an unnamed Target location with copies of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask displayed for sale.

No word on whether or not the copies were actually available to purchase or if they were simply being displayed.

With pictures to prove the validity of the sighting, it is hard to deny the possibility that some lucky Target shoppers at that location will be getting an extra special treat!

Pokemon Shuffle could be launching in North America as early as next week. A Nintendo newsletter has been making its way out to fans, which apparently confirms a date of February 18. We’ll let you know if we receive official confirmation.

The Cutting Room Floor has discovered a strings file labeled “miiverse” inside Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. This seems to have strings for some kind of cut achievement system.

There’s a ton of text included in the file. Players would have received achievements for defeating bosses, uncovering new areas, collecting KONG letters and puzzle pieces, and more. Perhaps it would have been possible to share achievements on Miiverse?

If you’re interested in checking out the full text from the achievements-related file, continue on below.

In a new report, Unseen64 claims that Nintendo Software Technology created a pitch in 1998 to obtain exclusive access to the Harry Potter franchise. Had Nintendo been successful, it would have “secured the rights to produce all adaptations of the book series for the indefinite future in video game form; potentially preventing the eventual movie adaptations from being created altogether”.

Unseen64 says – via a former artist at NST – that two groups planned separate pitches. One group would focus on a third-person adventure title, while the other (including Marvel comic book artist Adi Granov) would concentrate its efforts on a game based on Quidditch.

Back in December, there was talk about a cancelled Metroid project for 3DS. Not much was known about it at the time, but a few concrete details have since surfaced.

The folks over at Unseen64 put up a new podcast on Patreon that shares a bit more on the mysterious Metroid project. It was made clear by the site’s Liam Robertson that this was an attempt to revive 2D Metroid on 3DS. Based on a rough prototype Robertson saw, the title was a tad faster than Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.

According to Unseen64’s Liam Robertson, Nintendo was, at one point, attempting to create a licensed game that would have featured a huge property. Robertson said that the franchise in question is “like Star Wars level big”. Additional information hasn’t been shared yet, but we do know that the IP Nintendo was interested in had nothing to do with gaming.

Below is a roundup of Robertson’s tweets:

For those who are unaware, Unseen64 often digs up information regarding cancelled gaming projects. We’ll bring you more information when we have it.
