We all know that Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam lets players obtain cards for use in battle by scanning amiibo. But interestingly, there are also “sparkle” cards that can be obtained by registering two amiibo of the same character. One example would be to use Mario from the Smash Bros. line as well as one from the Mario Party line.

Wii U and 3DS will be on display at Best Buy this weekend as part of a new “Sunday Funday” demo event. Fans can try out the likes of Yo-kai Watch, Super Mario Maker, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, and Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon between 1 PM and 4 PM local time on December 23. This also lines up with new sales and offers that begin on the same day.

Nintendo’s site has the full listing of participating Best Buy locations. You can see the lineup here.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is once again featured in this week’s issue of Famitsu. As previously mentioned, the magazine highlights a new “My Fairy” system and Great Sea map in Adventure Mode.

Fairies act as partners on your journey in Adventure Mode. If befriended, they will be in “My Fairy”. Fairies can unleash devastating attacks using fairy magic, and you can also customize special attributes. Just one can be taken into battle at a time.

On December 16, a soundtrack for Monster Hunter X will be sold in Japan. Capcom published a video today giving fans a behind the scenes look at a bit of the musical recording. View it below.

The Washington Post caught up with Nintendo of America’s Scott Moffitt, the executive vice president of sales and marketing, to talk about the 3DS among other topics. He discussed the system’s performance, supporting it given the company’s commitment to mobile, and more.

According to Moffitt, thus far in 2015, “sales of the family of Nintendo 3DS hardware in America are actually ahead of last year’s pace.” He also proclaimed that the “3DS is here to stay” in light of discussion about handhelds and their continued relevance to the market with casual gaming on smartphones on the rise.

Below are his full comments:

“Nintendo 3DS is here to stay. Let me throw out a number that might surprise you. So far, on a global basis, Nintendo 3DS has sold more hardware than PS4 and Xbox One—combined. Most people find this shocking.

Obviously we don’t deny the impact of smart devices on the gaming market. But it’s a mistake to consider this a zero-sum game. Clearly gaming on smart devices and gaming on Nintendo 3DS can happily coexist, to the benefit of all gamers. The fact is, playing games on two very different hardware platforms means options for two very different kinds of game play. The inclusion of multiple control buttons on Nintendo 3DS allows a much deeper and more sophisticated type of play.”

Head on over to The Washington Post for additional comments from Moffitt, including thoughts about online multiplayer/social features.

During the November Nintendo Direct, it was announced that a Smash Bros. presentation would be held sometime this month. Nintendo has now shared a date for the broadcast. You’ll be able to watch the presentation on December 15 at the following times:

– 10 PM in the UK
– 11 PM in Europe

Masahiro Sakurai will be in charge of the proceedings. He’ll talk about Cloud, but we should be hearing about the Fighter Ballot as well.

  • the layout of the Discussion section has been altered slightly to show more Discussions at once.
