Shipments of Monster Hunter 4 have now exceeded three million, which Capcom says is a new record for a third-party game on the 3DS. The publisher’s figure includes retail shipments as well as downloadable sales coming from the eShop and download cards.

Total Monster Hunter series sales have surpassed 26 million units as of October 15.

Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel shared a few words about Nintendo while speaking with ONM this month.

According to the Rayman creator, innovation is the company’s greatest strength as well as its greatest weakness. This goes hand in hand with risk-taking, he believes.

Ancel also said that “the biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo.” Miiverse and the GamePad were both pointed to as examples.

Ancel’s comments in full:

Nintendo’s greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is innovation. It’s a company that takes a lot of risks. Few people understand that innovation involves risk-taking, because you don’t control everything on the market.

Today, the biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo. People may like those surprises or not, but that’s a fact. Miiverse was a surprise, the GamePad was a surprise. What will come next? I can’t wait!

Update: It’ll now take Theatrhythm Final Fantasy a couple of weeks to ship, but you can still lock in the price.

There are a couple of new discounts on Amazon that you may be interested in. First up, you can grab the highly-addicting Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for $18 (40% savings). Pandora’s Tower is also on sale for $20, resulting in a $10 discount.

Raising Pokemon was one of the areas Game Freak placed great emphasis on while developing Pokemon X/Y.

Director Junichi Masuda, in an interview with Famitsu, explained that players tend to play games less these days. And so raising Pokemon is much easier than before. As an example, experience points can be gained simply by catching another Pokemon.

“While we did integrate a lot of detailed adjustments into the game balance, another part would be the ease of raising Pokémon. Nowadays, we have the Internet, smartphones, and more, so I think the time spent playing games has decreased.”

“For those reasons, we made it much easier to raise your Pokémon that will allow you to play smoother and more comfortably than before. For example, simply catching a Pokémon with a Pokéball will net you some experience points.”

Ever go to prom? Remember the overwhelming tension and excitement surrounding the build-up to the big day? Rushing to get a last-minute suit vest the same hue as your beloved sweetie pie’s dress, making sure that painful last payment on your limousine rental went through, flipping through your anthology for the optimal Ja Rule record on the way there to set the mood just right… ah, I can almost feel it as though it were yesterday. In fact, my prom was yesterday (I’m in the Navy), and the most vivid memory I have of that fateful eve was getting my mullet trimmed and cut into a bowl cut earlier that afternoon.

While there’s surely no surrogate to be had for a proper trim and cut, with the recent release of Cut the Rope from hitherto unknown Russian developer ZeptoLab, you can now come close to replicating the same pleasurable feeling I experienced at the hands of the barber in the comfort of your home with your 3DS stylus. At a price of $9.99 (compared to the lousy $17 run-around deal I got for a pretty standard bowl shape), Cut the Rope checks off every box a figurative contemporary downloadable game assimilates, and through sheer content and professionalism, releases as one of the most polished and notable puzzle titles to be consumed on the 3DS eShop. Om Nom.
