Metroid: Samus Returns doesn’t have a massive amount of story, which fans would probably agree is a good thing. However, Nintendo and MercurySteam did expand upon things a bit more compared to the original Game Boy game.

When you first start Samus Returns, you’ll be treated to an opening with lovely art recapping the first Metroid game. The images maintain the look of a comic book, and may look even better when viewed in stereoscopic 3D. Take a look at some images snapped from Metroid: Samus Returns’ opening below.

Earlier this week, we made note of an interview Nintendo Dream conducted this summer with the developers of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. In the same interview, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems talked about the “Battle of Revolution” April Fools’ Day joke that took place earlier this year.

It was kind of surprising to see Nintendo go all out with fabricating a game like that. A site was set up, and various images and details were created just for the joke. Basically, Battle of Revolution was imagined as a NES-style game set in the late Edo period of Japan.

Nintendo’s Hitoshi Yamagami and Kenta Nakanishi as well as Intelligent Systems’ Toshiyuki Kusakihara and Masahiro Higuchi discussed Battle of Revolution and how it came to be. It’s an interesting read, with the excerpt posted below. You can also read the full interview on Kantopia.

During a live stream earlier this week, Jackbox showed off one of the new games included in The Jackbox Party Pack 4. Get a look at Monster Seeking Monster in the video below.

WWE 2K18

2K Sports updated its announcement page for WWE 2K18 on Switch with an interesting note. It now states, “The Nintendo Switch version of WWE 2K18 will support 6 characters onscreen at once.” Reader Mike tells us that other versions of WWE 2K18 will feature eight characters on-screen at once.

It’s unclear if WWE 2K18 will differ on Switch in any other way. 2K Sports has promised the inclusion of new features, the MyPlayer mode, and the new Custom Match option.

Thanks to mike for the tip.

If you’re planning on attending Gamescom next week, you’ll be happy to hear that Away: Journey to the Unexpected will be playable. Even better, a demo will be available on Switch.

The official Twitter account confirmed earlier this week.

Other upcoming games will also be playable on Switch for the first time at Gamescom. These include Monster Boy, Nine Parchments, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

It didn’t take long for Nintendo to open the full North American website for Monster Hunter Stories. You can access it here.

The site has plenty of details about Monster Hunter Stories, along with screenshots and gameplay clips. We’ve rounded up the footage below.

Thanks to Gervaise B-A for the tip.

Best Buy is the home of the Nintendo World Championships 2017 qualifiers. Over the next few weeks, select stores across the United States will host the events, giving gamers a chance to make it to the big tournament in New York this October.

There will be more to the qualifiers than simply securing a spot in the Nintendo World Championships, however. Nintendo already announced that Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns will be playable. Best Buy is planning a few other things as well.
