As previously reported, Square Enix is now taking applications to take part in the early demo of the recently announced Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent mobile game in Japan.

While a Square Enix Members account is necessary to apply, the developer has laid out other key details for the distribution, as translated by Gematsu below.

Hello, my Toy-cons and Joy-cons! This week on NEP, we discuss Nintendo Labo: VR Kit, images of Sonic from the upcoming film, Octopath Traveler for Mobile and much more. Oni is a bit jetlagged and Galen is a bit sleepy, so we talk a little crazy in this one… but we make it work!

Octopath Traveler

Square Enix announced a new Octopath Traveler game for mobile earlier today. One reason why the company is interested in continuing the series is due to the success of the Switch game. Square Enix has revealed that Octopath Traveler has sold 1.5 million copies.

Octopath Traveler will also continue beyond the mobile title. Square Enix has confirmed that a new console game is in the works. Additionally, the company wrote on Twitter: “For those of you waiting for a new console game, we apologize, but we’ll need more time for production, so in the meantime we hope you’ll enjoy this.”

Update: Full title of the new Octopath Traveler project on IOS and Android is “Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent”. An official Japanese website is now open, offering pre-registration for the game.

Original: In a surprise, sudden announcement, Square Enix has confirmed that a new Octopath Traveler project is in the works for iOS and Android — and even provided a first trailer.

While initial details are slim, the game is confirmed to remain single-player focused. However, some early translations are reporting that the mobile title is not a port of the Switch title. In fact, it sounds as if the game will feature proper stories for all 8 characters and more contend may be added after launch.

Additionally, the game is stated to take place before the events of Octopath Traveler on Switch, with movement resembling more of an “on rails” game with swipe motions for movement.

The first trailer can be viewed below. More details will be updated as they are made known. Currently slated for a 2019 release.

With the Octopath Traveler remix album “Octopath Traveler Arrangements – Break & Boost” available starting today in Japan, Square Enix has released two new promotional videos previewing some of the songs in the set.

Although the video is in Japanese, those interested can still listen to the samples in the trailers below.

The Octopath Traveler remix album “Octopath Traveler Arrangements – Break & Boost” will be released in Japan next month, on February 20th. Today, Square Enix released a promotional video for the soundtrack album, showing the recording process as well as composer Yasunori Nishiki talking about the album. Even if you don’t speak Japanese, the video is well worth the watch since it also features a couple of previews of the remixed songs:

What up, kids and squids?!

This week on NEP, Oni and Galen discuss Nintendo’s 2018 efforts—the good AND the bad: all the games, free DLC, ports from Wii U, Nintendo Switch Online and more.
The gang also reminisces on some of their favorite games they’ve played this year, and end the show by explaining what kind of sandwich best represents NEP! Per usual, Galen is optimistic and Oni is pessimistic.

Octopath Traveler’s music has received a lot of praise, and the standalone soundtrack has been available to purchase for a while now. However, Square Enix isn’t quite done with the game’s soundtrack yet. On February 20 2019, an Octopath Traveler remix album called “Arrangements – Break & Boost -” will be released in Japan. Supervised by the composer of the game’s original soundtrack, Yasunori Nishiki, this album will remix songs in two different styles: the “Break Side” will contain piano arrangements of songs, while the “Boost Side” will be more modern band arrangements. Each “side” contains six tracks; here are the songs that are on the “Break Side”:

  • The Frostlands
  • Primrose, the Dancer
  • Determination
  • A Settlement in the Red Bluffs
  • Orewell, Beneath the Crags
  • Decisive Battle II

And these six tracks are on the “Boost Side”:

  • Battle I
  • Decisive Battle II
  • They Who Govern Reason
  • Battle At Journey’s End
  • Daughter of the Dark God
  • Octopath Traveler Main Theme

The soundtrack will be released on February 20, 2019. It will cost 3000 Yen.
