[Review] Pocket Card Jockey

System: 3DS (eShop)
Release date: May 5, 2016
Developer: Game Freak
Publisher Nintendo
You’re playing solitaire, managing RPG stats, strategically maneuvering an adorable little stumpy-leg horse. As disparate as these elements seem, they manage to meld into a single cohesive experience with every little initially convoluted wrinkle feeding into another system, looping around and creating a uniquely addictive experience. I haven’t ever wanted to play a racehorse management sim governed by the rules of solitaire, but I’m sure glad I did. I guess what’s most surprising is that some madman somehow crafted these distinct gameplay elements into one of the more engaging 3DS games.

Update: No new game – Momotaro Dentetsu game in the works for Wii U and 3DS
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 9 Comments
Update (5/4): Bumped to the top. There appears to have been sort of mix-up. During tomorrow’s stream, 2006’s Momotaro Dentetsu 16: Hokkaido Daiidou no Maki will be shown. The Niconico page likely had an error. LEGO Marvel Avengers (Wii U / 3DS / PS4 / PS3 / PSV) was shown during the last broadcast, so Denjin Gacha probably copy-pasted the previous stream’s description when writing the description for the latest broadcast, and did not change the platforms for its featured game.
Original (5/3): The Momotaro Dentetsu series began way back in the late 1980s. Konami has now announced that a new entry in the board game-style franchise is coming to both Wii U and 3DS in addition to PlayStation platforms. This is the first time we’re seeing the IP since Momotaro Dentetsu World on DS back in 2012.
Details on the latest Momotaro Dentetsu title have yet to be revealed. However, it will be featured on the next Denjin Gacha Niconico live stream on May 5 at 9 PM Japan time.

Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 0 comments
Terraria will be coming to Wii U on June 28 in North America and June 24 in Europe, 505 Games and creator-developer Andrew Spinks’ Re-Logic have announced.
For those who haven’t heard about it previously, Terraria is a side-scrolling action-adventure that involves crafting items, exploring worlds and battling enemies. The title features a traditional 2D combat system with expansive crafting mechanics and randomly generated pixel worlds.
On Wii U, the team is including “intuitive touchscreen controls to allow players easy access to the world of Terraria, as well as several multiplayer options such as four-player local split-screen co-op and eight-player online multiplayer.” Additionally, it will be possible to post achievements on Miiverse leaderboards to track progress.
Here’s a rundown of other features in the game:
• 14 different environments such as eerie dungeons, slippery ice wastes, wild jungles and more;
• Hundreds of craftable weapons, armor and items;
• More than 150 enemies ranging from zombies to armies of goblins;
• Epic boss battles that test players’ combat skills;
• Vast worlds of exploration that introduce new potions, magic, gear and more.

Limited Run Games shows interest in physical version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 8 Comments
On Friday, we heard about Limited Run Games exploring a potential physical release of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. But that’s not the only Nintendo game that the company wants to pursue.
Limited Run Games has gone on the record and has mentioned that Phoenix Wright is a series the company is interested in. Specifically, they’d be open to making a physical version of Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies happen.
Here’s what Limited Run Games said on the matter a couple of days ago:
It is a possibility, but like Atelier or other big games we’d be distributing rather than publishing. We’d have to pay a pretty high per unit cost to Capcom and buy 5k+. We haven’t made any progress on Dual Destinies, but it’s a personal want of mine.
Super Meat Boy also out for Wii U on May 12 in North America, 3DS version hinted at
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS eShop, News, Wii U eShop | 3 Comments
Super Meat Boy was confirmed for a May 12 release on the European Wii U eShop a few days ago. An announcement sent out today reveals that the game will also be out in North America on the same day.
Super Meat Boy will cost $14 / £13 / €14 at launch, which is a 20 percent discount. It’s seeing a 20 percent discount until May 26.
Along with Super Meat Boy’s Wii U release date news, the announcement contained an interesting section which seems to tease a 3DS version. Here’s that relevant part of the press release:
Super Meat Boy launched in 2010 on Xbox 360 and PC, and was immediately labeled as a definitive work in the sub-genre of brutally difficult platformers. Since then, gamers all over the world have been waiting to play it on other platforms. It was finally released on PS4 and Vita last year and with the Wii U version arriving this month, only the 3DS will be missing (but maybe not for too long ;)) Gotta catch them all!

Kimishima’s official comments on not selling NX at a loss, importance of software, more
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 79 Comments
Last week, we posted a number of comments from Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima from the company’s investors briefing mainly pertaining to NX. This included questions/answers about the price, the need to have a steady stream of games, and more.
Nintendo has now put up a translation of the investor briefing Q&A. You can find a roundup of the official comments below.
For the fiscal year ending March 2017, projected sales of Wii U hardware is set quite low, due in part to the timing of the launch of NX (development code name for the new-concept dedicated video game system currently under development). During this planning stage, what was the thinking about the effect on the Nintendo 3DS system?
By setting the projected sales of Wii U hardware for the fiscal year to 800,000 units, we do not see that there would be any negative effect on the Nintendo 3DS business. We have major titles for Nintendo 3DS for the fiscal year ending March 2017, as I mentioned in the presentation, and there is a solid lineup of titles. That should greatly contribute to the sale of both the hardware and the software. The positive aspect of lowering the projected sales of Wii U hardware to 800,000 units is that it allows us to focus on the Nintendo 3DS system.

Kimishima says Nintendo is serious about mobile, Miyamoto involved
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 26 Comments
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima was asked about Nintendo’s commitment to mobile at the Big N’s latest investors briefing last week. Kimishima reiterated that the company would like “to grow smart device gaming as one of the pillars of Nintendo’s revenue stream.” Additionally, Shigeru Miyamoto is also involved as “he is having specific talks with developers of games for smart devices on what would be desirable overall.”
The full question and answer is as follows:
I would like to reconfirm how serious your company is about your initiative on games for smart devices. How much management resources are you intending to shift over to this business in the future? The company has extremely able, world-class creators, and I think they could create hits in games for smart devices. In that sense, I think the best scenario would be to have the legendary Mr. Miyamoto take up the challenge of games for smart devices, and have him create something that would make people think, “This is truly Nintendo’s smart device game.” Mr. Kimishima, what do you think about that?
If people are “not sure about how serious we are” about smart devices, it means that information issued from our company is not accurately conveyed, and I have to reflect on that. As we have reiterated, we want to grow smart device gaming as one of the pillars of Nintendo’s revenue stream. As for shifting managerial resources in that direction, we have very capable developers who are working on development of games for smart devices, as you already know. Of course, Mr. Miyamoto, our Creative Fellow, is also supporting the business for smart devices from a company-wide perspective. To explain the level of engagement of Mr. Miyamoto, he is having specific talks with developers of games for smart devices on what would be desirable overall. In that sense, what you see from the outside may be markedly different from what we see on the inside. As I have said, we want this to be one of the pillars of our business. Our level of engagement has not lessened, so I hope you will understand that.
