Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In a recent interview with French outlet 20 Minutes, Animal Crossing: New Horizons developer Aya Kyogoku discussed Nintendo’s approach to the Switch game. Kyogoku was asked if the team went about making an ultimate version of sorts rather than something entirely new.

In response, the Animal Crossing director said Nintendo always tries making the latest entry “the best game possible,” which was also the case with New Horizons. At the same time, Nintendo wants to preserve the “memories and affection” players have of previous titles like Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Kyogoku’s full words:

Usually when Nintendo has big, new games to announce, they’re unveiled in a Nintendo Direct. That wasn’t the case with Paper Mario: The Origami King, however. News about the game’s existence was dropped out of nowhere on Thursday without any sort of notice. The status of Nintendo Directs are up in the air due to the coronavirus pandemic, so it seems that announcements may take place at any time.

After the whiplash of Paper Mario’s reveal, you quickly come to realize that we’re getting a new entry in the series on Switch in just a couple of months. It’s a quick turnaround for Nintendo, as it’s already slated for July 17.

Several details have been shared about the game so far. You’ll be going up against King Olly, who’s looking to fold the entire world. Mario can use the 1000-Fold Arms to interact with the landscape by stretching out and pulling, peeling and revealing new locations. Characters will be enlisted throughout the journey, including King Olly’s good-natured sister, Olivia, and even Bowser himself. As far as the battle system, which might be the most important aspect, Nintendo says it’ll be ring-based in which you “line up scattered enemies and maximize damage.”

Based on what we’ve seen so far, how are you feeling about Paper Mario: The Origami King? Do you plan on picking up the game in July? Let us know in the comments below.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix review

System: Switch
Release date: May 14, 2020
Developer: SEGA
Publisher: SEGA

The world’s favorite vocaloid superstar finally makes her long-awaited Switch debut with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix, bringing along a from-the-ground-up experience where you can attend and play through your own personal concerts at home and on the go. Other Crypton mascots Meiko, Kagamine Rin/Ren, Kaito and Megurine Luka are also included with over 100 songs and a myriad of outfits for you to choose from and customize. Long time fans of the series will recognize favorites like LOL -lots of laugh- and The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku as they go through a catered track list throughout her discography tapping into just about every genre imaginable, from rock ballads to pop, dance, jazz, and more. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix is a celebration of vocaloid culture and music, with tons of beautiful music videos accompanying the songs as button prompts fly from all sides of the screen, and the experience is only really hindered by long loading times and low resolution that degrades its otherwise stunning look.

Nintendo has announced that a new set of games are joining the Switch Online service.

Over on the SNES, we’ll be getting Wild Guns, Panel de Pon, and Operation Logic Bomb. NES is adding Rygar as its sole title. All releases will be live on May 20.

Here’s a rundown of each game, along with a video:

Nintendo has ported many of its Wii U games over to Switch, but there are still a few titles remaining. Pikmin 3 is one release that we could be getting sooner rather than later.

Venturebeat reports that, aside from Intelligent Systems which just unveiled Paper Mario: The Origami King today, “other Nintendo studios will have games ready for release soon”. The site specifically cites the rumored 3D Mario remasters plus something we haven’t heard of previously: Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Paper Mario: The Origami King

Nintendo has just announced Paper Mario: The Origami King, a brand new game for Switch. It’ll launch both physically and digitally on July 17.

Paper Mario: The Origami King kicks off as “the dangerous King Olly unleashes his plan to fold the entire world.” Princess Peach’s Castle has also been bound “in giant, colored streamers and transported it to a distant mountain.” Bowser’s minions have transformed into Folded Soldiers and have been enlisted, too.

New to this title is a ring-based system in which you “line up scattered enemies and maximize damage.” It’ll be based around turn-based battles. Another addition is the 1000 Fold-Arms that “allows you to interact with the landscape by stretching out and pulling, peeling and revealing new locations, helping you to solve puzzles and uncover unexpected surprises.” Players will “enlist the help of characters old and new, such as King Olly’s good-natured sister, Olivia, along with a range of unlikely allies, including Bowser himself”.
