Niantic is in the process of rolling out a new Pokemon GO update. Like usual, fans are picking it apart in hopes of making some interesting discoveries. The Silph Road now appears to have found evidence of a potential holiday event / items.
First, graphic assets have been added which look a lot like presents or gifts. File names for these are tiered from Bronze to Gold and then with variants for Special, Great, and Ultra. The Silph Road also points out that a metadata attribute named “HasHolidayItems” is showing in relation to the shop, and a variant of the shop button has appeared:
We’ll have to see if anything comes of this. If we do hear anything, we’ll let you know,

Original advertisement for the NES found on eBay
Posted on 7 years ago by Zack in General Nintendo, News | 7 Comments
After a reported five years of searching, the first advertisement for what would become the Nintendo Entertainment System has been located.
Hidden a few pages into a 1984 issue of Consumer Electionics is the first advertisement for the NES, in the form of a prototype known as the Advanced Video System, or AVS. Found by archivist Frank Cifaldi on eBay, he parted with a measly $6.99 for what he considered an “extremely lucky” find.
It took five years but I finally found it: the very first advertisement for what became the Nintendo Entertainment System, from late 1984! pic.twitter.com/6r4sv7vSst

Third Yo-kai Watch movie tops Japanese box office and beats Rogue One
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 7 Comments
The third Yo-kai Watch movie, known as Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daib?ken da Nyan! (Yo-kai Watch The Movie: The Flying Whale and the Grand Adventure of the Double Worlds, Meow!), premiered in Japan this past weekend. It managed to top the Japanese box office, beating out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – which also opened a day earlier. We should note however that Yo-kai Watch’s box office earnings for the Saturday – Sunday time period did not overcome Star Wars.
The new Yo-kai Watch film sold 545,211 tickets for 608,033,100 yen (roughly $5.189 million) on 415 screens on Saturday and Sunday. That amount encompasses 57.5 percent of the opening weekend box office for the previous Yo-kai Watch movie, which went on to earn 5.53 billion yen (roughly $47 million).
Thanks to Mii Again for the tip.

Switch supports Vulkan and OpenGL 4.5
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 120 Comments
Switch is now confirmed to support both Vulkan and OpenGL 4.5. The Khronos Group certifies the console as a Vulkan 1.0 conformant implementation. Moreover, it shows the OS as “Nintendo OS” and it passes the Vulkan 1.0.1.0 CTS. Switch is listed as hitting OpenGL 4.5 and OpenGL ES 3.2 conformance as well.
That’s a lot of technical talk, but it should only mean good things for Switch owners in the end. This essentially means that developers should have an easier time creating games for the system.

Finger Gun Games is nearly done with the first update for Ohayou! Beginner’s Japanese, but the indie developer has further plans. A new blog post notes that another update will be released to implement off-TV play.
Switch and 3DS versions are both still possibilities for Ohayou! Beginner’s Japanese. Finger Gun Games is interested in Switch specifically, but a 3DS edition could still happen depending on what the future holds for the portable.

Nintendo says it isn’t planning additional content for Super Mario Run
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 6 Comments
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo has no plans for “additional content, either free or paid” in Super Mario Run. That information comes directly from a company representative.
Now, we do know that Super Mario Run is already being updated with new items and tie-ins to My Nintendo. That’s what we’ll likely be seeing going forward. The core experience won’t change, and we’re unlikely to see new levels based on what Nintendo is saying.
