Level-5 published a new teaser site today. But whereas you may be expecting it to be Japanese-related, the page actually comes from the company’s North American branch. That likely means some kind of localization announcement is on the way.

The website currently houses a door. Click it, and you’ll be shown that another door hidden inside. Click several more times and you should see a magnifying glass appear. If you click once more on the doorknob, you’ll come across the image above.

I’m inclined to think that Level-5 is teasing Layton Brothers: Mystery Room – an iOS game – but we won’t know for sure until an official announcement is made.

Nearly 50,000 people with video game-ties showed up at E3 2013 this past week. The ESA has announced that 48,200 video game industry professionals, investor analysts, journalists, and retailers from 102 countries were at the expo.

28,000 total hotel room nights were generated from E3 visits and Los Angeles profited from close to $40 million in revenue. Roughly 230 exhibitors displayed content.

Not a bad E3 for the ESA!

Numbered Shin Megami Tensei games have never featured female leads. Could Atlus be open to making a change in the future?

Shin Megami Tensei IV character designer Masayuki Doi is personally a fan of highlighting a female lead in a mainline Shin Megami Tensei title. Doi did explain, however, that some longtime players could be opposed to that kind of move.

“I like female protagonists. It would be cool to have a female protagonist in the next SMT game.”

“However, there are traditionalists that see the series from the past to present and all of the protagonists have been male. To keep that tradition, there is feedback I’ve been hearing saying that if there is a new SMT title we should keep the tradition of having a male lead.”

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS will include a single-player campaign like the series’ previous entry, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. But it will be different from the Subspace Emissary.

Sakurai offered up one specific. It sounds like the team will be creating movie-like sequences once again, but these videos will be available at the beginning – no unlocking will be required. Players will be able to watch movies for Wii Fit Trainer, The Villager and Mega Man immediately.

Other differences are currently unknown.

According to Sakurai:

A few outlets have been asking Nintendo about third-party support over the past few days. One publisher in particular that has come up often is EA. But whenever these companies were mentioned, Nintendo typically said that an inquiry should be sent to the publisher.

Joystiq did exactly that with EA. The site caught up with EA Labels president Frank Gibeau to discuss Wii U and find out what it would take for the publisher to reconsider its Wii U support.

His response:

Although Sonic Lost World and Sonic X-treme may have some similarities, they aren’t intentional. Takashi Iizuka, who is in charge of Sonic Team, gave an official answer about possible connections between the two. Simply put, there aren’t any.

Iizuka said:

“The viewpoint is based upon the idea of expanding the forward view, because the sight lines have sometimes been limited, resulting in hindered gameplay. With the change, the new routes are possible, which expands gameplay. So that’s the point of the game itself.

Actually, no one in the team, except myself, are even aware of Sonic X-treme’s existence. So it’s just a coincidence.”

Atlus is preparing a Japanese demo for Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl. The download will be ready to go on June 19. Progress made in the demo can be transferred to the full game, similar to the Etrian Odyssey IV demo.

It should come as no surprise that Masahiro Sakurai is keeping quiet on specific elements of the new Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS games. Sakurai is not, for instance, talking about what happens when Kirby eats Mega Man.

Sakurai only offered up the following:

“A lot of what you’re asking is still classified. As far as the physical appearance of Kirby, I think what you imagine is probably pretty close to what will actually happen.”

When asked if Kirby would receive an Mega Buster, Sakurai said: “He’s got little tiny arms, so who knows.”
