Famitsu reached out to Nintendo following yesterday’s Switch reveal and inquired about a few more details. One thing they asked about was backwards compatibility. As should be obvious given the lack of a disc drive on the Switch, Nintendo confirmed to Famitsu that the Switch would not be compatible with Wii U discs. They also confirmed that it will not be able to read 3DS game carts either. A form of digital backwards compatibility might still be possible, but if you want to play your physical Wii U and 3DS games, then you need to hang on to those consoles.
Famitsu also asked about whether or not the Switch will be able to play games developed for smart devices. Nintendo declined to answer that question at that moment.
Finally, Famitsu asked about the Switch’s battery life. Nintendo refused to give specifics, merely saying that the device was designed so that players could play “as comfortable as possible even in a place where you have no power supply.”
Puyo Puyo Chronicle will be released in Japan on December 8th. Ahead of that date, SEGA is bringing players up to speed on how to play the game. This week’s eShop update in Europe was Halloween-themed; several spooky games are available at lower prices and there were some new releases as well. Among those were the Wii Download version of Project Zero 2: Wii Edition and Super Castlevania IV & Super Ghouls’n Ghosts for the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. Nintendo releases some new trailers for these three games today – give them a watch:
Since the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch yesterday, several developers have come out and pledged their support to Nintendo’s latest home console. Today, Shin’en Multimedia, developers of games such as FAST Racing NEO and Nano Assault, have done the same and confirmed via Twitter that they are a Switch developer. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise after they recently said some extremely positive things about their relationship with Nintendo in an interview, but it’s nonetheless nice to know that we’ll see their games on Switch as well.
Bandai Namco announced today that an update coming to Dragon Ball: Fusions on November 2nd is going to add two characters from Dragon Ball Super: Trunks and Goku Black. Naturally, since this game is all about fusions, both of these characters will get special EX fusions: Trunks (from Super) can fuse with regular Trunks to form Trunks (EX), while Goku Black can fuse with Broly to form Karoly Black. Make sure to take a look at the gallery below:
Dragon Ball: Fusions has already been confirmed for a Western release, so it’ll be interesting to see how this update will be handled. Will it be included in the base game or released at a later date? Either way, we will keep you informed.
Koei-Tecmo published a bit more information on Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death today. While no further gameplay details were provided, the company did confirm that the game would have voice acting, and that all the voice actors from the anime would return for the game. Character artwork released via Famitsu today reveals that pretty much every major character from the anime is going to be in the game as well. Famitsu also released a couple more in-game screens. Take a look at them in the gallery bellow:
Nintendo’s stocks have fallen by 6.5% as the market closed for Friday. This fall follows the Switch reveal trailer and the 5% increase after they announced the reveal. According to the Wall Street Journal, some investors felt that there was a lack of surprise, especially given how quiet Nintendo has been about the console. We will probably see more changes in their price and commentary on it after the Investors Meeting on Wednesday.

One of the incentives for playing the Pokemon Sun & Moon demo is the ability to send stuff from the demo to the full version of the game. In the demo, there are various tasks you can take on – once you clear them, your reward will be something that you can send to the full version of the game. Just talk to Professor Kukui in the Pokemon Center and select what you want to send. Note, however, that you need save data from the full version to do this, so you can’t send anything just yet.
Here is a list of tasks and their respective rewards:
- Clear the “main” part of the story, i.e. beat Plumeria – Greninja
- Beat three trainers on Ten Carat Hill, then beat the Ace Trainer near the exit – Star Piece
- Catch three Pokemon for the first time in the Pokemon-catching challenge on Ten Carat Hill – Nugget
- Talk to the woman on the eastern exit of the city (near the Slowpoke), then clear all the rocks with Tauros – Stardust x3
A special Halloween site has opened up for Pokemon Sun and Moon, focusing on Mimikyu. It features fanart, Instagram features, and a music video for Mimikyu. You can watch the video below:
