GamesBeat was recently given the opportunity to speak with The Pokemon Company consumer marketing director J.C. Smith. Smith had plenty to say about the Super Bowl commercial which aired earlier in the year, the Detective Pikachu film (we’ll hear more “soon”), Pokemon GO, and more.

Per usual, we’ve rounded up some of the important responses below. You can read the full interview on GamesBeat here.

It’s Mr. Pants is a very interesting game. Banjo-Kazooie developer Rare created the Game Boy Advance title back in 2004. As some of you may know, Mr. Pants started out as the studio’s mascot on their website.

Rare recently shared a feature in which the making of It’s Mr. Pants was discussed. Check out the 10-minute video below.

Over on Miiverse, the first “Kirby: Planet Robobot Ask-a-thon” was hosted yesterday. Fans were able to ask director Shinya Kumazaki several questions about the game.

In the new Q&A, Kumazaki talked about the game’s name, how long it took to develop, a scrapped idea involving the story, and more. Head past the break for all of Kumazaki’s comments.

Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO received its latest update yesterday. For a select group of players fortunate enough, they now have access to some features Niantic is testing. There are big improvements across the board when it comes to tracking.

First, you’ll see that the Nearby section has changed to a greater extent than we knew of previously. Players can now see the closest PokeStop if a Pokemon is near there. Also, when touching a Pokemon and select “view”, it zooms out and takes you to an overview map – the Pokemon appears to be in the pink circle. Choosing the Pokemon to track puts a marker on the live map, and when one flees, you’ll be notified with a message.

Here’s a look at what’s to come for tracking in Pokemon GO:

As Niantic is still in the testing phase with new tracking features, things may change a bit before the system is rolled out to all players. Still, what we’ve seen so far is a noticeable improvement compared to what’s in Pokemon GO at the moment.

Update: We now have slightly more extensive patch notes – see below.

Pokemon GO’s latest update (version 1.3.0 / 0.33.0) is starting to go live. It’s a bit more involved than the last one, as Niantic has addressed a bug with XP bonuses and the battery saver mode has returned on iOS. Additionally, there’s now a driver warning as well as the ability to change your nickname once.

Currently, the update is available on Android. The same patch should be up for iOS users very shortly.

Last August, Inti Creates said that Azure Striker Gunvolt would be receiving an update which would add Japanese voices. Although it has still yet to be released, the good news is that it’s still on the way. Moreover, the Japanese voice mode will absolutely be included in the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack.

Here’s the news from Inti Creates:

“Also, in regards to the Japanese Voice Mode for Azure Striker Gunvolt 1 on the 3DS, we are sorry that it is taking as long as it has to give you any concrete information. At this point, we can tell you that the Japanese Voice Mode will definitely be included in the Striker Pack for sure. Just like the Steam version, it will have all of the voices back in place and the new translation to go along with said voices. As for any sort of patch/update to the digital version of GV1, as soon as we have something for you, we will not hesitate to announce it.”

Speaking of the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack, it’s late September launch isn’t entirely set in stone. According to Inti Creates, it “may extend slightly into October by a few days.”

Lastly, aside from that, today’s news update also includes official details on the Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 bosses Gibril and Asroc. Head past the break for the latest on these two characters.

At QuakeCon, finder.com.au spoke with Pete Hines, vice-president of Bethesda Softworks. Hines was asked about the company’s stance regarding NX, and whether we can expect to see their titles on the new system.

Hines said in response:

“We talk to Nintendo all the time – we’re pretty well briefed in on what they are doing. It’s definitely something we will look at; and our philosophy is that we will put our games out on any format that supports the games as we envisage and make them. If the NX fits that from a technical standpoint, and fits the game that a developer in our stable is making, I don’t see why we would not put it out on NX. But it’s too early to say, ‘we’ll definitely be putting games out or not.’ Like with mobile, we want to have the right fit for the right formats.”

Bethesda has some heavy-hitting franchises between the likes of Elder Scrolls, DOOM, and Dishonored. Having more third-party games on NX certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing. Only time will tell if Bethesda’s titles will end up on the platform, however.
