Miitomo, DeNA’s first mobile project being developed in conjunction with Nintendo, is due out in March of next year. That’s a free-to-play game. Likewise, all of the titles the company is currently developing will be based on a similar model.

“Games currently in the pipeline are all free to play,” DeNA chief executive Isao Moriyasu mentioned at an earnings briefing earlier today.

Moriyasu wouldn’t really call “Miitomo” a game during the financial meeting. However, he reiterated that its rich entertainment features make it more than just a chat or communication tool. The app will also be updated continuously.

Another important note: it appears that DeNA is focusing its efforts on co-developing Nintendo’s free-to-play apps while the Big N handles the paid ones.

Two Puzzle & Dragons games have already hit the 3DS, and it looks like a third one is in the works. This month’s issue of CoroCoro reveals that GungHo Online Entertainment is preparing a new title in the series for Nintendo’s handheld.

We don’t actually have any concrete news about the project just yet, though there’s some speculation flying around that it’s a sequel to Puzzle & Dragons Z. The only thing we have to go on currently is the cover from CoroCoro. Maybe the new Puzzle & Dragons game is something that will be touched upon during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct?

Nintendo Badge Arcade was announced for Europe earlier today. In the region, it’s planned for release on Friday.

We weren’t sure if Nintendo Badge Arcade would be launching in North America as well, but it turns out that it’s available to download right now. Yup – you can grab it from the eShop at this very moment.

Here’s the news from Nintendo’s Twitter account:

Nintendo Badge Arcade takes up 582 blocks of space.

Thanks to Brian for the tip.

Nintendo has uploaded two more Super Mario Maker levels, both of which are located in Event Courses. You can now take on “Cat Mario’s Course” as well as “Cat Peach’s Course”. The two unlock brand new costumes that are shown in the videos below upon completion.

Update 2: Bumped to the top again. The Nintendo Direct has now been confirmed for Japan, and it’s airing at the same time. Nintendo says it will focus on Wii U and 3DS games launching by the end of next spring. Morimoto, who hosted the presentation at the end of May, will lead the way on this one as well.

Update: No real surprise here, but the North American page states: “Please note that the presentation will not feature any updates on NX and mobile.”

Nintendo Direct is making a triumphant return later this week. Today, Nintendo announced that the next broadcast is set for Thursday. The presentation will cover upcoming Wii U and 3DS games.

Satoru Shibata will host the European presentation. It’s unclear who will lead the North American version, though Reggie Fils-Aime and/or Bill Trinen are likely candidates.

Here’s when the new Nintendo Direct will air:

– 2 PM PT
– 5 PM ET
– 10 PM in the UK
– 11 PM in Europe

Aksys Games has announced the localization of Extreme and Masaya Games’ Langrisser Re:Incarnation -TENSEI-, a strategic simulation RPG for 3DS. The title is due out in Spring 2016.

You can view the first English screenshots from Langrisser Re:Incarnation -TENSEI- in the gallery below. We also have a comprehensive overview.

After a 15 year absence, the legendary RPG series makes its triumphant return to the gaming fold! Wield the mighty sword Langrisser as you journey through a massive world at war. Define the path before you by lending your talents to one of three factions and secure your place as your faction’s greatest hero by executing strategic supremacy over your enemies.

Collectible Badge Center is finally making its way outside of Japan. Today, it’s been announced that the application is launching in Europe via the 3DS eShop on Friday. The download will be distributed for free.

Here’s an overview of Nintendo Badge Arcade:

In this lively arcade run by a chatty rabbit, players can take a shot at crane games and similar classic amusements, collecting badges based on Nintendo games and series like Mario Kart, Splatoon and Animal Crossing. Badges can be used to decorate the HOME Menu, with some even usable instead of the standard system icons that access, among others, Nintendo eShop and StreetPass Mii Plaza – perfect for total HOME Menu makeovers.

Every day, visitors to the arcade get five free plays on a practice machine: it only offers dummy badges, but with skill and a little bit of luck, players can win free plays for the machines packed with real badges. Plays can also be bought at a price of £0.90 / €1.00 for five plays (All prices are Nintendo eShop prices, inclusive of applicable VAT).

Players can show off their unique HOME Menu designs via Miiverse, and check out other creators’ designs for inspiration. There’ll be plenty to discover in the weeks and months following launch too, as the badges and machines on offer will change regularly, opening up even more customisation possibilities.

It’s not yet known if/when Nintendo Badge Arcade will be releasing in North America. For now, watch a trailer for the application below.

Let’s Talk #29: What are you playing? – November 2015

It’s the beginning of a new month (close enough anyway, right?). November is upon us, and there are only a few months left in 2015. Tell us what you’ve been playing or what you intend to play soon!

As for me, I just wrapped up Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Great, great game. I’ve talked about how atrocious my backlog before, and the fact that I only beat this game a couple of days ago further shows that! Within the past few weeks I’ve also been playing a bit of Lumines: Electronic Symphony, and some of Dillon Rolling Western which I wasn’t enjoying too much.

Highlights from last week’s topic: Has your opinion on Nintendo’s November Wii U releases changed?

TruExtent

I think the line up has potential but they are focusing my the wrong things. I don’t care for AC Amiibo Festival and I have a feeling the new Mario Tennis will only generate so much interest.

Everyone is forgetting Xenoblade X.

If Nintendo wants to generate more interest this holiday, they need to market the hell out of Xenoblade to the level that Microsoft is pushing Halo and Ubisoft pushing Assassin’s Creed. From the very few times I look at a TV if I see a video game advert, it’s one of those two games; I never see Nintendo’s stuff. If Xenoblade can’t cut it, maybe Devil’s Third can (with the right marketing). I feel an action game will have far more potential than a party game and an arcade sports game.

Meanwhile, the 3DS should be just fine.

Steve793

Nope not really. Wasn’t interested in them before, still am not.

For me, the Mario sports series are just meh. I personally wish they didn’t exist and Nintendo had made sports games using new IPs with new characters and such, instead of just putting the Mario IP on it. Think of it this way, that would mean more characters from different series for Smash… But, they could have had a Mario Team, a Zelda Team, etc for in-game opponents or have Mario, Link and Fox as surprise characters. That’ll never happen, so whatever. But seriously, for sports games, I’d rather go outside and play the actually sport than do it in a video game, especially tennis. Then again, I’ve only played Super Sluggers, and while that was alright, I wasn’t hooked, but I could still be persuaded on Mario Sports games, but I’d still rather see new sports games with new characters.

And since I’ve never played an Animal Crossing game, and don’t particularly care for Party games like Mario Party and such, I’ll be skipping this, and playing my backlog until Xeno X.

JuleyJules

Not at all. Wasn’t interested in whatever is coming in November before especially a tennis game with no motion controls. Do we really need another Wii Party U/Mario Party 10 style game on Wii U with other characters? The whole rolling the dice by using amiibo was a pain in MP10 and quickly turned everyone I know off of it. Still not interested now. They need to step it up to keep people interested until the NX comes out imo.

ecoutercavalier

I can’t really justify either purchase yet. Amiibo Festival seems like a lazy excuse to make AC amiibo. I’m not sure what I would want out of an Animal Crossing themed board game, but what they came up with just isn’t doing it for me. Even with the new modes that have been announced I doubt I could convince a group of friends to play it more than once.
Mario Tennis looks sort of bland, but I’ll forgive it if we find out that there are loads of good mini-games or a compelling tournament mode. I like the amiibo support. If I’m not mistaken this is the first game that allows you to use amiibos in online play. It’s not necessarily enough to play perfectly if you haven’t bothered training your amiibo, but if you have then it might be able to cover some of your mistakes. It’s very cool in concept, but I’ll wait to see how balanced it is before passing any judgement.
