The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword introduced us to the memorable character Groose. But as it turns out, this wasn’t his original name. While he may be known as Groose in the west, his Japanese name is Bado – essentially a reference to bird.

Groose’s localized name was created by former Nintendo Treehouse staffer Mike Drucker. On last week’s episode of the GI Show, Drucker talked briefly about how he came up with the idea for Skyward Sword’s character.

During a naming meeting, Drucker was told that Groose was a jock and sort of a jerk. Nintendo was also trying to stick with a bird theme with Skyward Sword. With that information, he went from “Bruce” to “Goose” to “Groose”.

We’ve included the podcast segment in which Groose is discussed below. The whole talk is actually very interesting though since Drucker spoke about his days at the Nintendo Treehouse (before eventually moving on to The Tonight Show!), so you should definitely give it a watch.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

A new video from NiNTENDOMiNATi0N provides us with more extensive footage from Skylanders SuperChargers Racing. Take a look at 85 minutes of gameplay below.

Skylanders SuperChargers came out this past weekend, but the 3DS and Wii received a different version known as “Skylanders SuperChargers Racing”. You’ll find a bunch of footage from the game below – nearly an hour’s worth in fact!

If you were on the site in 2008, you may recall that there were quite a few rumors surrounding Factor 5 developing a Kid Icarus game for Wii. Of course, we all know now that such a project never came to be.

Liam Robertson has been doing some investigative work as of late in hopes of finding out more about Factor 5’s plans for Kid Icarus on Nintendo’s old console. You can listen to his findings in the video below.

NIS America has shared a new Rodea: The Sky Soldier trailer focusing on the Wii version. We have it below.

Remember: all pre-orders and first-print copies of Rodea: The Sky Soldier on Wii U come with the Wii version.

Donkey Kong and Bowser are both included in Skylanders SuperChargers. But interestingly enough, a few other Nintendo characters were considered for the game.

One idea developer Vicarious Visions had was to make a Warrior Princess Peach with a sword. However, Nintendo didn’t approve the idea because that would have been out of character, and all Super Mario Bros. hero characters were off limits.

Kirby was also considered to be a potential character in Skylanders SuperChargers. He would have been able to suck up enemies and bounce around the screen. Since Kirby is partially owned by HAL Laboratory, he couldn’t be licensed out to Activision.

Star Fox was yet another Nintendo character that Vicarious Visions thought about including. He didn’t make it in, however – perhaps so that the Big N could keep the focus on its own title, Star Fox Zero.

Skylanders SuperChargers and its Skylanders SuperChargers Racing equivalent for 3DS and Wii will release on September 20. You’ll find development details about Bowser and Donkey Kong in the game below.

Amazon Spain has posted the packaging for the PDP Wired Fight Pad – Zero Suit Samus edition. We’ve posted it above.

GameStop is currently taking pre-orders for the controller in North America. On the retailer’s website, it’s listed for a September 15 release.
