Stocks, share prices, and other things of that nature aren’t usually something we cover. After all, those tend to fluctuate often, and can do so quickly. However, Pokemon GO has made such an impact for Nintendo that we’re willing to make an exception.

Business Insider reports that Nintendo shares rose roughly 10 percent on Friday. And today, in early trading in Tokyo, shares increased as much as 23 percent. Bloomberg’s David Ingles notes that this is the best one-day move for Nintendo stock since 1983.

One year ago, late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata passed away. He was just 55.

Iwata passed away on July 11 (it’s now that same day in Japan) of last year. We actually didn’t know about what had happened until a couple of days later. Out of nowhere, Nintendo put up an official notice on its investor relation’s website about the situation.

Looking back on that time, everything felt so surreal. I still remember seeing that notice on Nintendo’s website and questioning if what I was looking at was legitimate. We knew Iwata was dealing with a health issue, but I just couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t seen the news floating around anywhere else, so I was just hoping that it was somehow untrue.

It was an extremely sad period around this time for everyone last year. For me, Iwata’s passing really had an impact – more so than I could have ever imagined. Even though I never knew him personally, I just felt incredibly sad knowing that he wasn’t here with us anymore.

There’s no question that Iwata has been missed over the past 12 months, and that will continue. All we can do is keep his memory alive, remember all that he did for the gaming industry, and how many people he impacted.

Thank you for everything, Satoru Iwata.

In one of its recent issues, Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream conducted an extensive interview with some of the developers behind Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice. Motohide Eshiro (producer), Takeshi Yamazaki (director), and Takuro Fuse (co-director) participated in the discussion.

There was a ton of talk about the 3DS game in Nintendo Dream’s interview spawning over 10 pages. The developers touched on topics like Maya’s return, ideas left on the cutting room floor, and more.

Pokemon GO only just came out a few days ago. Of course, new features will be added to the game over time.

One feature Niantic will be interested in bringing in the future is trading, which company CEO John Hanke acknowledged as a “core element.” It’ll tie into the app’s virtue of players interacting with each other in virtual and real worlds.

Aside from that, Tech Insider reports that other new elements planned include more ways to play with Pokestops and Gyms. Currently, Hanke stated that they’re only in Pokemon as “very most basic versions”, though in the future, it’ll be possible for players to “customize their functions in other ways.” Niantic is also working on a global leaderboard so that players can see who’s the top trainer.

That’s not all though. Improvements are also on the way for the AR technology. Hanke said what’s currently in the app is “great first step,” but there’s more they can do. Regarding Pokemon GO on dedicated AR devices, Hanke teased: “That may be a fun thing to take advantage of.”

Update: Here’s Yacht Club’s official video:

Strangely it’s about half as long, so we’ve kept our original recording in place.

Inti Creates and Yacht Club Games are teaming up for the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack in the west. But the two sides are working together on a second collaboration that was unveiled at BitSummit today.

During a Nindies panel at the event, a trailer was shown for amiibo support in Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. The video, posted below, highlights how players can challenge Shovel Knight to a fight while controlling Copen or Gunvolt.

The Shovel Knight sprite was designed by well-known pixel artist Masaya Suzuki from Inti Creates. Suzuki has worked on classic series including Breath of Fire and Mega Man Zero.

Pokemon GO can only be downloaded in three countries at the moment: the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. The Pokemon Company did say earlier this week that the app is planned for Canada, Europe, and South America “soon”. Aside from that, there haven’t been many updates.

Speaking with Business Insider, Niantic CEO John Hanke said Pokemon GO’s rollout in other regions is “paused until we’re comfortable”. Hanke’s comment was in response to server issues plaguing Pokemon GO since release due to player overload. He added that the company is working on a fix.

Hanke also addressed the success of Pokemon GO thus far. “We thought the game would be popular, but it obviously struck a nerve,” he said.

Hanke went on to say that Niantic has already made strides in fixing connecting issues through “a great run” of server availability yesterday evening.

Over 80 years have passed since the terrible events of the year 2020, where Tokyo was left severely dilapidated by the vicious attacks of Dragons. To some, it is just a legend, seeing as there weren’t very many survivors. But to others, it is a very serious issue in which an organization known as ISDF want to prevent future attacks, as well as travel through time with the help of some trainees who win a Dragon-hunting simulation contest to put a stop to these monsters for good. In a world where Dragons were thought to be practically extinct, Tokyo gets a very bad wakeup call in which no more time can be wasted. With eight classes and a variety of moves and teams to make, 7th Dragon III: Code VFD puts you in charge of ridding the world of these Dragons and saving humanity once and for all.
