Toys “R” Us seems to have nabbed another amiibo exclusive in the United States. On Twitter, the retailer teased that Mega Yarn Yoshi – as well as a restock of Villager – will only be available at its stores.

Here’s the relevant message:

An image surfaced yesterday of Mega Yarn Yoshi on the Toys “R” Us holiday big book. Given today’s information, it now makes sense that they’d want to feature the amiibo prominently in its promotional materials.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes features over 30 costumes that can be accessed through normal play. But there’s one that is only obtained by teaming up with friends locally.

When playing local multiplayer (including Download Play), you’ll receive an item called the “proof of friendship”. You’ll get one “proof” per friend’s system. A currently unspecified amount is needed in order to obtain the special costume.

Speaking with Japanese website 4Gamer, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and Tri Force Heroes director Hiromasa Shikata explained that the team thought they should make a reward for those people for play locally. Head past the break for our translation of the interview excerpt.

Update: First look at battles in the game:

Atlus debuted the first Shin Megami Tensei IV Final trailer during a live stream event today. Watch it below.

Takashi Tezuka

Last month’s issue of GamesMaster contains an interview with well-known Nintendo developer Takashi Tezuka. There were a few interesting topics that we wanted to highlight.

First, here’s what Tezuka said when asked about why Mario resonates so well with people and the key to his longtime success:

“Personally, I think that even before people come to like Mario as a character, it’s the gameplay of Super Mario that really resonates with them. We created Super Mario Bros paying close attention to intuitive feelings – things that anyone in the world can relate to – which users feel through the gameplay; running is fun, jumping high is something you want to do, falling is scary and spikes hurt you if you touch them, etc.

I think it all started with how the gameplay resonated with players. From there it’s been how we’ve continued to make Mario games for so long, and all the work we have put into making sure that Mario is never used in an inappropriate way, that has allowed him to slowly become such a well-loved character.”

Europe’s sixth Splatfest in Splatoon is now confirmed for next weekend, though it may look familiar to some. The topic is cats vs. dogs, which was actually the very first Splatfest in North America.

Europe’s new Splatfest will begin at 7 PM in Europe / 6 PM in the UK on October 17. It will last for a full day.

Here’s the official news straight from Nintendo of Europe’s Twitter account:

Pokemon Go was announced last month. We saw a trailer and received some information, but we don’t really know how the game will play. That should be changing very soon though. Niantic representative Evan Dexter told Slate a couple of weeks ago that more information would be shared in “mid-October”. It’s October 10 today, so an update shouldn’t be too far off.

Dexter said:

“We’re not quite ready to talk in more depth about Pokémon GO than what was revealed in the announcement press release and assets. Come mid-October we’ll be able to start going into more depth about our plans for the game, and about our plans for real world gaming overall.”

Pokemon Go is a new smartphone game coming from The Pokemon Company, Niantic, and Nintendo. It makes use of “real location information to encourage players to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokemon.” The title is arriving sometime in 2016.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.
