Animal Crossing: New Horizons

It’s been known for some time now that Animal Crossing: New Horizons won’t make use of the cloud-save functionality that is part of Nintendo Switch Online. It has since come out that save data for the game will be shared among all users on a system, and since the save data isn’t tied to one single user, it can’t be uploaded via the regular cloud saving feature of Nintendo Switch Online. Nonetheless, fans are concerned what will happen if they somehow lose access to their save file. Today, Nintendo responded to these issues on their Japanese Topic website (credit goes to Vooks for the translation):

As it turns out, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will have a way of backing up your save data – however, it will be separate from the cloud saving functionality of Nintendo Switch Online due to the unique nature of the game’s save data. Nintendo was not able to provide exact details at this moment; however, they stated that a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be needed for this functionality, and that it can only be used when your Nintendo Switch is damaged or lost. There’s also currently no finalized date for this feature, so it seems like it won’t be available at launch. Nintendo also confirmed that you won’t be able to transfer your save data from one system to another, like you can with most other games.

As reported by VGC, Banjo-Kazooie’s name has ties to former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi.

Yamauchi has a grandson called Banjo Yamauchi. His son is named Katsuhito Yamauchi, otherwise known as ‘Katsuhi’ for short. When they’re combined, you get ‘Banjo-Katsuhi’. That sounds a whole lot like Banjo-Kazooie, doesn’t it?

Series creator Greg Mayles says that the part about ‘Banjo’ is spot on while composer Grant Kirkhope says the story is true:

Luigi's Mansion 3

Kotaku has shared another round of quotes from the developers of Luigi’s Mansion 3. The site was able to speak with lead producer Kensuke Tanabe, producer Yoshihito Ikebata, and director Bryce Holliday.

During the discussion, the developers weighed in on why there aren’t floor puzzles in the final game, the decision behind not adding an upgrade system, and how the Virtual Boy made it in. They also shared a bit of lore for the main colored ghosts and the classic Boo ghosts we’ve come to know.

You can find excerpts from these topics below. For the full interview, head on over to Kotaku.

Director Hideki Kamiya posted a meaty update to the Kickstarter page for The Wonderful 101: Remastered. We get a look at some very interesting items from the game’s development, including the first draft of the design document, initial designs, and even prototype screenshots.

Here’s the full rundown from Kamiya:

Arc System Works has announced Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle, a collection of legendary beat ’em up games from the arcade and classic consoles. It will launch for Switch via the eShop on February 20.

Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle includes eighteen titles including seven Double Dragon and Kunio-kun vintage games from the 80’s and 90’s, and all eleven Kunio-kun classic titles from the Famicom that have been localized into English for the first time ever.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, which was listed for Switch by multiple retailers, has now been officially announced. Publisher Deep Silver has passed along word that the port will indeed launch on March 27.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected retains the same zany, open-world antics of the original release. 25 DLC packs are also built right in.

Here’s some information about the game as well as the first Switch trailer:

Saints Row IV was thought to be coming to Switch after it was listed by a French retailer. A page for the game has now popped up on Amazon as well, all but confirming the news.

Amazon says that Saints Row IV will be released for Switch on March 27. GameFly has a listing up as well with the same date.

Here’s an overview of Saints Row IV, along with some screenshots:

The Wonderful 101 started out on Wii U where it was an exclusive and published by Nintendo. On the other hand, for The Wonderful 101: Remastered, it’ll be self-published by developer PlatinumGames and will release on multiple platforms. Some may wonder what that could mean for Astral Chain, which is in a similar spot.

PlatinumGames studio head Atsushi Inaba confirmed to VGC that Astral Chain is “owned half by Platinum and half by Nintendo.” He also said that it’s “too early to say” whether Astral Chain will eventually take the multiplatform route, but it would be up to the Big N to sign off on such a move.

Inaba’s full words:

The Wonderful 101 is returning on Switch thanks to a new Kickstarter campaign. Rather than going with Nintendo or a different publisher, PlatinumGames has decided to fund this project directly.

Speaking with Nintendo Everything, studio head Atsushi Inaba discussed the decision to go down the Kickstarter route – a first for the company. Inaba also mentioned that “Nintendo’s kindness has allowed us to expand to other platforms”, allowing for The Wonderful 101: Remastered to launch on Switch as well as other systems.

Inaba shared the following with us:
